That sounds like a fab day! I went around to Port Meadow on Sunday but I wasn't able to locate/find little gulls or the glaucous, just plenty of ducks....

I'm so glad it's still here! Mind you, I'm too busy to go and twitch it off.... (stupid homework!!) I saw lots of turtle doves in Japan so I somehow feel 'familiar' with the bird!

Same! My feeders are well stocked up but hasn't appeared yet! It might be eating all the food while I'm looking away....

There are some reported in Marston - where I live! I'd better track 'em down on sunday(I'm busy on Sat - typical.) Also because I'm going into town on Sun I might just check Botley road... But guess what, I know I'm going to double-dip!

Ok, here's a fact. WAXWINGS DO NOT EXIST. Not to me, anyway! They're being reported everywhere now, but I still can't track 'em down. A flock was reported just a road away from me! Are there any good waxwing sites where I can twitch some?

Lucky you, I'm yet to see these birds and I'm starting to mistake starlings for waxwings... that's how desparate I'm becoming!

I went to Templars Square and Tescos(NOT to look for waxwings, by the way) - but no waxwings, but lots of berries. I also went to RSPB Church Wood - nothing! About 5 nuthatches, dozen of robin, few blue tits, but that was pretty much it!

Still no waxwings on my list. I might aswell go to TESCOs to look for some! Not many new birds recently for me - still missing winter finches! Siskins, bramblings.... surely they're out there somewhere??

Even though I was hoping for a waxwing or two to come in my garden, now I have no hope - the redwings ate ALL the berries - now, that's alot of berries!

Thanks for the answers - I think I'd better wait a few more years teaching myself, then think about it - do be honest I've never really seen anyone of my age as interested in birding around Oxford - I've seen a few teens but they were with thier birder dads and not desparately trying to find...

I know! So many good birds, so little time. Just a quick question - is the OOS worth joining? Sorry, that question sounds as if I critisize OOS, I really don't(I get all the bird info from the site!). The thing is, I'm only 13 and I think it'll be really awkward being with all the other more...

Lovely bird - call me sad if you like, but I've never seen one! Would the RSPB Church Wood be a great place to go looking for finches? Well, that's what it says in my Nature of Britain book, anybody been there?

Good birds indeed! Typical that it's the dreaded 'exam week' next week and I can't go birding!

Hawfinches - never seen them! I went to farmoor the other day, not too impressive. Very rainy meant that I had no idea what was mipit, wipit or ripit, also the visibility was poor. I did catch up with a few goldeneyes, but that was about it....

    Oxfordshire birding

Lovely photos - I really want to go to farmoor to catch up with wipit and the scaupXtufty duck! Might drag my mum along to see them, but the weather's not looking too good for my mum to agree to take me there.....

There seems to be hundreds of waxwings coming in this year - I wonder if any will make it as far down as Oxford? There are few reported in London and Buckingham.... I'd love to see those birds.

Well, I'm not a twitcher but half an hour cycling in the freezing cold at 7 in the morning, I couldn't resist.

    Oxfordshire birding

It's back? Well, not that I can go and see it, I've got school! Anyway, when it flew off north on sun it just flew off, as far as I know it wasn't scared off by anything. Well, maybe a few telescopes staring at it!!

    Oxfordshire birding

Yeees, I woke up at 5.30 and was there just before 8, I didn't dip out for once! I walked about the meadow till 11.30 and saw a redshank and a few snipes, but, unfortunately the little stint which I wanted to see had moved on. A lesser yellowlegs was reported today in west midlands, I wonder if...

Oh noooo. I'm not coping with the excitement of going to PM tomorrow. Uuurgh. I may sink into the floods of PM if I dip out. Wish me luck for tomorrow!

    Oxfordshire birding

Yeah I know... many dogs - doesn't help! But I don't live near port meadow so takes 30-40 minutes cycling. I try to go as early as I can but the joggers are always earlier than me! Also that the fact burgess NR is like where scary people hang about makes my mum weary of me going on my own...
