That's very sad.....one found dead on Portland recently too - do you happen to know if that bird had died through starvation?

Wyke Down could be worth a visit if you are up at Hambledon Hill. The shorties might still be around come mid-march and if not MArtin Down is only a few miles further on...

I can only echo DorsetDude's comments - brilliant site organisation and an awful lot of respect paid to a very special place. Congratulations to those who found and saw the eagle - Poole Parrot first drew my attention to Morden Bog with his reports here so it must be particularly humbling for...

Merlin A female merlin was near West Compton today - in the same area that a bird spent last winter so hopefully she is the same. Anyone passing this way (between Dorchester & Bridport) would do well to nip off the A35 and have a slow drive along the Roman Road between West Compton & Compton...

Single hobby hawking over Old Decoy Pond, plenty of buzzards, woodlark, stonechats, kestrel. Plenty of butterflies too, small heath, small blue, holly blue, gatekeeper, meadow...

Tried for a nightjar at Powerstock Common last evening, but got seen off by the midges at around 2230. It looks perfect habitat though - not sure if anyone else has had any joy down there....oh - I did hear a cuckoo.

I have loved your updates Pooleparrot - thank you. Yet to make a trip to Morden, though I moved fairly locally just a couple of years since. You have certainly inspired me to get my backside down there before everything quietens down. Best wishes kev
