8.00 is probably a bit early (although I had one churring mid afternoon last weekend) but I'm surprised you didn't see one by 9.40. Unless you are desperate to see one in Dorset I'd recommend Burton Common, I don't think I've ever failed to see them there.

Not really out of the ordinary - but Wrens are singing a lot at the moment, they catch me out sometimes.

Irfanview is a freebie programme which is easy to use for resizing, there's loads more here if you don't like that one, you'll need to sort through which ones which are freeware though.

You may be too late for Bittern, they all seem to have left Blashford Lakes about a week ago, I'd be surprised if the Hatch Pond birds didn't operate to a similar timetable.

GWE has not been reported for the last few days at Blashford, but the Bittern has been seen most days from the Ivy North hide.

It wasn't the birds I was talking about. Racing to the Western edge of the county will mostly take you to Somerset, Hampshire is East.|>|

I'd probably try Brands Bay, not really what you'd call seawatching but plenty of ducks, waders and divers. There's a hide at SZ023851 if it's raining. Blashford lakes just North of Ringwood is usually worth a look too. Entrance at SU154072.

I saw one a few weeks ago sat on the grass three foot from the kerb in the middle of the Bakers Arms roundabout, in the evening rush hour.
