    Not sure about Corfe castle for CB, think there may be confusion with Maiden Castle near Dorchester. However there are lots of CB nearer to Poole in the Badbury rings area. Cheers James

    best areas SY 886 927 (view from track to the west) or SY 885 933 (view from track to the north) park at either of the pull-ins at sugar Hill to the south west (about 100m apart on left hand side of road travelling south, the southern one is immediately before the kink in the road) cheers, James

    i would say your chances of seeing nightingale at this time of year are very slim unfortunately, not least due to the thick vegetation. the best site in dorset (in my experience) is lydlinch common, area around the juntions of the A3030 and A357. cheers, James

    if you carry on down that road there's a parking area on the left, this has good views round the whole area, the ggs ranges widely but often seen along the fenceline at the far side of the field looking north east from the parking area, particularly around the fenced in tumulus. cheers, james

    the winters 09/10 and 10/11 were both brutally cold, i think dartford numbers more likely to reflect that. also your maths is off a little bit as if it wintered 09/10 and 10/11 those are consecutive years!! :-) cheers, James

    i saw those guys a few weeks back when the drake smew was there, the planes are relatively quiet and they were taking off and landing only in the top corner of the big lake. But they were flying loops around the island and i think it's fair to say the planes were bugging the ducks somewhat...

    hi Chris, to find "the hump" walk down beachdown way from southdown avenue, as you get towards the seaward end the reedbed on the right hand side ends and you come to an open area with various scrapes etc. the hump is the lumpy promontory in between the two gates on this side. cheers James

    hi eddyfish, as luke says, quail are not totally unexpected in good habitat in dorset. having said that, i've got to say your description of the call doesn't sound at all like quail to me... maybe partridge spp? cheers, james

    if you are looking from the shelter it is the near island, at the front about 3/4 of the way along to the right was there last night (sorry)
