That's it! Thanks for that, no doubting they were little grebe as I went down this morning for another look - not sure I realised just how little they were. Goldeneye down there today too.

Brilliant photos those Chris. Went down for yet another run at Holme Pierrepont today - fantastic array of birds just on the main boating stretch. Gadwall, Lapwing, Redshank, Kingfisher, Pochard and others. No bins or camera on me but there were two very small diving ducks swimming around...

    Nottinghamshire Birding

The cold weather seems to have bought much more variety to Holme Pierrepont, albeit nothing out of the ordinary. Lapwing and Redshank were back yesterday, along with plenty of Cormorant, Teal, Tufted et al. They were a noisy bunch yesterday.

On the main boating stretch, heading down towards the boathouse end. Not sure where it ended up but was flying low over the water. Hundreds of geese flying overhead again yesterday down there, making perfect V formations every hundred metres or so into the distance - looked incredible. Was...

    Nottinghamshire Birding

Went for a run down at Holme Pierrepont on Sunday morning at about 9am and was treated to a fly-by of about 500+ Canada geese, all honking away in their separate formations, was a fantastic sight (and sound!). Anyone know where they're heading? I presume they're off to find a warmer winter but...

Had a similar list from Attenborough on Saturday - but didn't manage to catch the Grasshopper Warbler annoyingly. Managed to get this pic of the Whitethroat though:

Two oyster catchers down at Holme Pierrepont this afternoon - not sure I've ever seen them there before. Is it normal this far inland? Only ever seen them on the coast before.

Peregrine Heard and then saw a Peregrine in Nottingham city centre for the first time in ages this morning, had wondered if all the building works around the Newton building had scared them off but apparently not.

Thanks for the info Dean. I went for a run round Holme Pierrepont on Sunday morning (20th Dec) and saw quite a few people birding - was going to ask what there was to see but didn't want to interrupt (plus if I'd stopped running I might have frozen to death!). I thought I saw a Grebe on the...
