Visiting my mum in Fife at the moment and had a lovely day on the east coast. Mostly standard stuff at the Eden nature centre (Ruff, Peregrine, 3 Osprey, Canada Geese, and Little Egret was a long overdue Fife tick!). At Kinshaldy/Tenstmuir was very pleasantly surprised to see 2 Black-throated...

a day in South Perthshire Alas, this thread doesn't seem as active as it once. However, I'm currently visiting my mum in Fife and thought there'd be no harm in offering a quick synopsis of a fairly productive day in the Amulree/Glen Almond area today. We drove to Dunked then west along the...

Just had a male Marsh Harrier drift low south over my parents house in Ceres.... first one I've seen in Fife away from the Tay reeds. Nice.

Just had a quick look at my Hawfinch records at Scone over the years, usually between 4 and 10 but I had 25+ in feb 2010 and 29 in feb 1995, so 30 is certainly an excellent count, but within range. Scone must surely have consistently higher counts of hawfinch than any other UK site.

went to Kingsbarns on the fife coast today. Good numbers of long-tailed ducks and r-t divers on the sea, 1 redpoll heard, not much else. Excitement ensued though with a nice male hen harrier quartering fields on the south side of the B940 about 1 mile east of the junction with the A915/Largo...

Further tremendously exciting ornithological upates from this part of Fife: now 4 Brambling with the linnet flock at Callange, still no twite. Not much else.

Ambling around my usual Christmas neck of the woods in farmland just east of Ceres this morning: not exactly a bonanza, but a nice flock of maybe 60 Yellowhammers, a smattering of tree sparrows, one Brambling briefly at Callange, biggish Linnet flock by Callange (alas, appeared to be...

Back in Fife for Christmas. Had 2 Raven around the quarry in Balmullo. This might be old news but these were the first ones I've seen in Fife away from the Lomonds. Also flushed a woodcock but not a whole lot else.

In Fife again at the moment. A "raptor watch" from Hill of Tarvit in central Fife this morning yielded 30-40 Buzzards and 5 Sparrowhawks but nothing more interested. Redpoll, Willow Warbler, Jay, GS Woodpecker all heard, and pretty sure i heard a Crossbill but couldn't quite nail it. Also a...

Not sure if your photo is intended to show med gull, but the one with the gulls depicts 2 Common and 3 Black-headed Gulls (the latter in various stages of moult into breeding plumage).

Oh no, sorry for the lack of clarity: the grebes were at Ruddons Point, and I see from birdguides that today there were 4 RN Grebes and 29 Slavs, so it's fairly grebetastic over there right now, although seaduck numbers seem disappointingly low.

Loving the kraftwerk reference, hopefully a fourth WTE, "Ping," will turn up. Did a spot of birding around Callange east of Ceres today. Encountered a flock of perhaps around 250 Linnets by Coaltown of Callange, with at least 2 Brambling and a Twite in with them. A twite call would emanate from...

Visiting my parents in Ceres, Fife, for the festive season. Today encountered a flock of at least 70 Tree Sparrows by the last house in Ceres on the track out to Craigrothie. Nice. More bullfinches than usual. Plus usuals like dipper, buzzard, gs woodpecker....

Hi. Little Bunting was with Reed Buntings at 13.20 this afternoon in bushes by the junction of the public footpath and the road 400m northeast of Coaltown of Callange, just east of Ceres. No sign by further sign by 1510hrs but I will try again tomorrow morning. best, Jonathan

Great White Egret in Fife Thought y'all might me interested to know that my parents had a great white egret flying south just south of cupar, fife, today late afternoon. They didn't have binoculars with them at the time but have spoken to my dad about it at length and it sounds solid - I...
