    It looks darker than usual but that's just the light. The angle also means you can't see the rufous in the wings because they're in shadow. It has quite bright orange-pink legs however, which are right for Common Whitethroat but wrong for Lesser, which has dark grey or blackish legs.

    The Kinness Burn in St Andrews always used to be a reliable area for Dipper, if you're in that neck of the woods.

    I was on the bus down to Glasgow this afternoon and was pleased to see an Osprey along the A9, in Strathearn between Perth and Aberuthven. Brightened up the journey a bit.

    The majority of moulting Goosander flocks in Scotland are of female and juvenile birds. I think most males go abroad to moult (not sure where). Eclipse males generally show much more white in their plumage than a female.

    It's very common at this time of the year to find moulting groups of Goosander along the coast of eastern Scotland. Whilst Red-breasted Merganser is possible, I think Goosander is probably more likely.

    The White-tailed Eagle in Northeast Scotland is known as 'Ralf'. I now like to think that it's named after Ralf Hutter.
