1 Spoonbill at Isley Marsh at 1:30 pm today. After half an hour it flew into a channel not to re-emerge. There could feasibly have been more already in the channel. Thanks all for the info. Also seen: 1 Bullfinch, 50+ Shellduck, Redshank, Teal, Dunlin, Turnstone, Curlew and 20+ Grey Plover.

Excellent not on my year list yet, I missed the one that spent the day in a field next to my house! Are they difficult to find?

North Devonites..... I have to travel to clovelly (near bideford) tomorrow afternoon so I thought I'd go early and stop off somewhere for some birding in the morning. Any reccomendations? I'll be travelling past tiverton and barnstaple on the a361 and a39 so anywhere near that route would be...

Just had a wondeful evening stroll from the house along the estuary; 5Blackwits, 8 Redshank, 4 Curlews, a Greenshank, 6 Turnstone, 3 Common Sands and, much to my surprise, a Water Rail. It chased a Moorhen through a small patch of reeds next to the road at Powderham deer park. I must say I...

Evening all, Would any of you Devonshire birders know of some good spots to go scope shopping? I tried in exeter, but the 2 shops - London camera exchange and Devon cameras - have a very small range. The only scope in my price range being the Opticron MM2 mighty midgit (btw would this be too...

Nice one Roy, I wish I had time to get up there! Did get a look at the spoonbill on Dawlish Warren the other day though. Much too far away for a decent photo, but still enough to confirm an id. Also a pair of pintails and the Brent geese have arrived in force!

I've just moved to Starcross and I've seen the osprey hanging around close to Powderham castle about a mile up the road a few times already so it is quite likely. Having said that it is noticably bigger than a buzzard - the first time I saw it I had no idea there was one around either and I...

Hi all, I'm moving to Exeter in September, I've had some time to explore the Dawlish Warren and the RSPB reserve further up the exe estuary but otherwise I'm pretty clueless about Devon, having lived in Wales all my life. If anyone has the time I'd be very grateful for reccomendations of good...

Yep, I bet that's what it was. We did see Linnets earlier on and I suspect it was an immature male lacking red markings and black streaking on the back. Thanks!

Hi all, new to the area, need help with an id on Dawlish warren, if any of you know the birds there. By the colouration, reddish brown back and a grey head, I was sure it must be a bearded tit, but there was no visible facial markings. Also the head was much less stocky than any I've seen, more...
