Made a mess of the car too. Looked nothing like Rod Hull's version therefore quite disappointing. :C That woman at the end of the news clip from some animal welfare organisation was a downer with her "It could have your eye out, you know" routine.

I was there for three hours yesterday. Never saw it and everyone who left was disappointed yet it was reported on Birdguides smack right in the middle of the period I was there. Not a wasted effort as there was plenty to see anyway including lots of mirid bugs in the nettles. Cheers, Andrew.

Thanks Jon, hope it obliges quickly so I can go and tick as much wildlife as possible to make it a productive trip to Lundy which sadly does not happen as often as it should. Weather looks set to be cloudy and windy but no rain. Touch wood. Cheers, Andrew.

Without access to the bird news services I would like to ask what the reports said about the Trumpeter Finch today as I am going tomorrow. Cheers, Andrew.

I remember one made the local news some years ago for walking about in a Woolworths or something like that down in Torbay way I think. Can anyone correct or confirm that?

Possibly of note to any birders based near Exeter or going to Exeter. A discount bookshop in the Guildhall Shopping Centre called THE WORKS has many pristine hardback copies of the New Naturalists 111 : Dartmoor by Ian Mercer at a bargain £6.99. I think this rates as a good birding find...

A nice early morning walk on the Grand Western Canal from Halberton to Tiverton produced a Garden Warbler, a Whitethroat, a Willow Warbler, two Sedge Warblers, nine Chiffchaffs, three Spotted Flycatchers, a Raven, ten Stock Doves and two Kingfishers. This thread's gone quiet.

Luckily for me a Red Kite drifted east over Newte's Hill just south of Tiverton whilst doing a tetrad. Third one I have had in the Tiverton area.

The Falcon showed well this evening perched in or around a bushnear the lagoon and dropping down for critters. First seen from the lane but I found the railway path best with the evening sun off my back.

Hi John, Your best and easiest option would be to go round the coast down to Broadsands or Berry Head. If you do not know where these sites are then just ask for further directions here and I or someone else will elucidate further. Hi Geoff, You are on the right side of the estuary in my...

Try, Meshaw Moor for Willow Tit but do bear in mind the pitfall of going there and expecting to see Willow Tit. Aim to spend time there and get good views. http://www.devonwildlifetrust.org/index.php?section=places:reserves&reserveid=246 It is also excellent for butterflies when it gets warmer...

Finally got the Bittern at Budleigh Salterton just as I was about to leave. It was in the field immediately west of White Bridge. I had packed my gear and was about to leave and started muttering obscenities to myself which flushed it from my feet. It had been there all the time despite the...

I remember Stafford Moor well, huge keepnets full of chunky pasties (carp) during club matches using the banal method feeder. We used to have a good big fry up at Winkleigh Airfield on the way there. I digress. Water Pipit showing well by the boardwalk at Exton Railway Station this morning...
