    It's a Yellow-browed Mike, as you suspect, extremely worn and poorly marked tertial fringing but otherwise in a similar state to this individual - http://orientalbirdimages.org/birdimages.php?p=13&action=birdspecies&Bird_ID=1837&Bird_Family_ID=162&pagesize=1 Nice japanese Thrush.

    I wonder if it's down to the small numbers of Eye-browed as away from the breeding grounds, almost all of the Grey-sided I've seen on passage have been with EBT, perhaps the main 'carrier' species?

    Don't know much about Asian caterpillars but I'd guess at a Hawkmoth sp judging by the size and colouration, a beauty nevertheless. There are some good 'brains' on the insect section on BF.

    Mike, The big river you mention at Shanhaiguan' is now trashed, more of a polluted trickle which has been concreted over in some areas! Gretchen, You can see Crested Kingfisher around Beidaihe in the late Autumn/Winter, try the reservoir/fishponds area and the bay at Lighthouse Point. They...
