Fantastic post and a great bird Mike. They must stay more tropical as they are quite common in SE Asia as I'm sure you know. I echo the other comments about your new camera and the operator of it.

Mike, I agree with the others here. It's been a great run and I'm sure your new place will amaze as well. That is quite a list! Amazing what you discover if you watch a place for long enough. There is always more than what we see too! Always a reason to head out, even only for 15 minutes...

Mike. Good stuff with the Thick-billed Warbler and that little piece of earth near the airport in your other thread sounds like a great lunch place! Male Rubythroats always make the observer do a double take don't they! Did you see the GPS trackers on the Oriental Honey Buzzards from Japan...

Very tough on the cuckoo ID, even with a front view.......you really need to hear it. Sorry to not be of more help. Oriental is now split?

Mike, I'm not a snake expert but it sure looks like a King to me. Colour, head shape and pattern, etc... Is that another species to your 30 something species in your area? Tom

Mike, I used to fly fish a lot and was thinking your insect resembled a stonefly but was totally unfamiliar with anything from your area. Reading about the call of a Plaintive Cuckoo...I've spent some time in Cambodia and remember the call well. Sounds like you had a decent morning out.

Sounds like you'll have no problem reaching your target of 100 then.

22 species of snakes on your patch?! Wow. I do remember you having a kind of cobra not that long ago. Nice looking photo as well.

Mike, Best wishes for your record year. You're over 1/3 of the way by Jan. 2! I'll be cheering you on. You might have inspired me in the area of yearly goals as well if I still had a patch..... Look forward to your updates as usual. Tom

Mike, congrats on the Amurs! You are right about them and power lines. Could very easily have been some of the same ones that passed here. Wonderful news. Tom

I should add that the tail of your Crested Bulbul is most likely stuck in a cage door somewhere in mainland China!

Mike, a wonderful bit of photography and a pleasure to read as always. Interesting to hear about what's arriving by you. We are in a very cold front at the moment which should send some more your way. Tom

Mike, I just cruised through your USA trip report. Excellent stuff. Good to see your reports again. Over 50 Chinese Egrets here on an all day wader trip up the coast. I know you wanted info about them.

Sounds like decent birding out your windows Mike. I must confess I would be quite happy to get a Hawfinch off my balcony. I know where I'm staying if I ever get to Hong Kong! How much for your valley-view suite?

Nice to see some green plants! Suggest to that Japanese Thrush to mix it up a little and take a different way north this spring. I know a great little garden for him in May called the Jinshitan Country Club. River side, lots of worms, great view of the ocean, a tennis court...

Mike, where do you get the names of the insects in China? I have a large folder of butterflies , spiders, and dragonflies that I would love to ID. Saw 2-3 gigantic butterflies yesterday that I had never seen before.

Dollarbirds arrive in beijing in May? I don't know if I have any records of them here until July at least and then it is usually the end of July. Cool spider shot!
