    Yorkshire Birding

Hawfinches in Parlington park It's been a long time since there were any reliable sites to see Hawfinch in the Leeds area but there have been at least 6 birds around the gamekeepers cottage in Parlington park over the last two days.

Hi Mark, Your pic is certainly Parrot Crossbill on structure and bill size/shape. For your reference are attatched 2 pics of Parrot Crossbill from Budby (pics 1& 2) and the 3rd pic of a Common crossbill from Swilly last year. I hope this helps. Dave

    Yorkshire Birding

Certainly is. Some Parrot Crossbills seem to have smaller bills than you might expect but if anything this one is bigger! Another plus point is that it's feeding on Pine cones rather than Larch. Is it one of the Budby birds?

I gather the reported BNG has been a Slav all along. There are new pics now on Yorkshirebirders facebook page. I've not seen any pics of BNG from here. I think head shape has been used to ID the bird, but this is not a safe way to split the two species as the attached pic of a Slav from a few...

On Friday afternoon the RNP was showing continuously around the bushes in the middle of new flash, and as far as I'm concerned "showing well". I would estimate the distance as being about 120yds. Most views of birds I see (admittedly at Swilly where the distances can be extreme) are from greater...

    Yorkshire Birding

We got there about 10.30 this morning and had various small parties of Crossbills going over, but we had to wait a couple of hours before a small party including the stunning adult male arrived in a nearby larch. Who knows how many there are down there?

    Yorkshire Birding

I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's seen this bird as it seems unclear whether there is a bird flitting in and out that's only being seen occasionally or that the bird being reported is the bird in the following link (which some visitors are ticking as caspian)...

    Yorkshire Birding

I think today's bird looks the same as the earlier bird. If you look at the pics on the swilly website, the pale wing patch is particularly obvious, indicating a young male.

The Bean Goose was still present today at Fairburn but very elusive. The bird spent most of the time feeding in vegetation across the water in front of the hide. At one stage all the waterfowl were spooked out and pushed onto the water, the Bean Goose was more or less the last bird to show A...
