I did say it was a formality but rest assured it's not countable in the county until it's published as adopted. G

I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourselves with Sibe Stonechat lads. As far as I'm aware it has only been recommended for elevation to full species status. It's almost certainly a formality but won't be countable until the BOU announce it in the next edition of Ibis. G

Birdnet had that as a probable adult Sabs Gull!!! Wonder if they are close together on a drop down menu?

Why not Join friends of Spurn Trystan? You'd be supporting the obs which I'm sure everyone agrees is a worthwhile cause, and you get the 2011 report (worth £8) when it comes out. So at the moment for £20 quid you'll get £13 worth of publications, reduced accommodation and privileged access to...

Hi James, It's a female Common Darter. As mentioned by Phil the yellow stripes on the legs separate it from Ruddy. A surprisingly obvious feature on perched insects. G

Andy I'm not sure that's right. I don't claim to be an expert on marine mammals, far from it, I do however spend a lot of time offshore doing surveys and ALL of the marine mammal observers I work with believe that these animals are either ill or on their way out when they come ashore. G

Anyone know what the whale was? I've seen it called a Fin, a Minke and now a Hump backed in various place! On another note why do they always try to rescue them? I thought the general opinion was that they come inshore to die, if so shouldn't they be left to do it in peace without hordes of...

Did you miss it Michael? I assumed the lack of reports were simply down to it having been there so long it was attracting less visitors. G

You can't fail Mal. It sits on the fence at the west end of the cement works at the west end of South Ferriby. There's an obvious lay by to park in and view from. G

Rodney Don't take any notice of Mannix I can't see what his problem is. I know you spoke to Andy yesterday and now the record can be fully documented, that's the important thing. The problem with these forums is they attract a large majority of people who haven't been birding that long in the...

Strong northerlies (or North west to North east really) anytime from now til the end of the month are best though Oct can be good and in Nov you get Little Auk in the same conditions. You'll need a scope and a good solid tripod with a fluid head to get the best out of it. Flamborough usually...

Going to see your Doc is probably a waste of time I saw 2 the first time I got it, understandably they didn't have a clue it was moths that caused it. Calamine lotion is the way to go. Since getting it for the first time, when they first arrived at Spurn, I get itchiness to a small degree...

Rodney1 I suggest you send Andy a private mail with your number so he can ring you to chat about this. Andy is the recorder for Spurn we publish a report each year and he'll want to put some notes in there about this occurrence. Why do you suggest the confusion over date can be confirmed by...

Doc The first one of the autumn was at Spurn last week so I doubt your birds were of continental origin. G

Hi Lawts I add stuff straight away if it's obvious it will get accepted, things get pended if they are either not on the British list, Brown Fly, Amur Falcon and Pacific Diver recently or if the ID is contentious Canvasback and Collared Fly. Had you on 348 on my list but not done on the site...

Hi Ken, I wrote the review on the Opticrons and can't recommend them highly enough, I'd try and find the extra they will be worth it. If you really can't find anymore and I'm guessing your budget is less than £300 you'd be better off going secondhand, a few years ago I got a pair of leica...

Those of you who have their lists on the Yorkshire birding listers league please remember to send in updates so the list can be kept current. We know lots of people have seen the Sharpie but only 3 people have sent us updates. You don't have to send the whole list again just an e-mither with...
