I know Roy from a previous trip to Hungary. Hope he's ok.

Based on location and time of year my money would be on Hen Harrier, but you could never be 100% sure.

Whether or not it’s worth trying to save a stranded cetacean surely depends of the species in question. Some species inhabit relatively shallow coastal waters and often get in to trouble becoming beached on sandbars etc. Many times such animals can be saved. Minke Whale perhaps falls into this...

The whale was initially identified as (or presumed to be) a Minke Whale. It was later found to be Fin Whale which is superficially similar but much larger. Both species are rorquals with streamlined bodies. I don’t know where Humpback came from!

Unfortunately the whale died this afternoon.

No vestigal rear legs although many other 'legless' lizards do including some skinks.

They differ. Males tend to be spotty and females stripy although there are other differences.

It doesn't mention any need to book so presumably you just turn up. Thanks for highlighting this event.

Sounds like a productive evening. Have you seen any Water Voles around this year?

I’ve not posted much on the Yorkshire thread over the last month or two. Mostly because work has taken most of my time and I’ve not done much birding in county. However, I still read it most days and enjoy reading about other people’s birding exploits. While arguments seem to be coming more...

The Marton Road area is a serious hotspot for Badger roadkill. Barn Owls often fly across the Marton Hall end but so far I've only found a roadkilled Tawny.

No, they are Podarcis Wall Lizards for sure. I'm pretty sure they are P. hispanica (Iberian) but they may be P. bocagei or P. carbonelli depending on exactly where you saw them. PM vipersgarden as he will give you a 100% identification.

I looked at the photos before I read the text. A Serin in Yorkshire is pretty exciting but Iberian Wall Lizards would be off the scale!

That's good news. I have seen Adders in other parts of the forest (including several basking on the main paths) but the actual reserve is where I have always actively searched for them. In recent years I’ve noticed an increase in other snake watchers (at least at weekends) while at the same...

Just out of interest how many Adders did you see? Numbers seem to have dropped quite alot in the reserve over the last couple of years. Thanks

I saw two separate Barn Owls this morning within 5 minutes of each other. The first bird was a very pale individual that flew across the road between the Viking pub and the North Star Hotel (North Landing, Flamborough Head). It appeared to be hunting the ditch south of the road. The time was...

They may be all dead your way, but there still seems to be a few along the coast. Over the last week I've seen a couple of different birds around Flamborough, together with one just outside Brid, and another one near Filey. All seen mid morning, with one of the Flamborough birds hunting in the...

Is there anything those big supermarkets don't have. They want a share of everything! I've noticed a few Robins seeking shelter in buildings this winter including one that spent a couple of weeks in my warehouse.
