As mentioned on another thread, and also as I'm apparently not the only Farlington regular, I think I'll just mention todays trip to the reserve. 3:30 isn't the best time of day to do any kind of birding really, but I headed down anyway, with the long shot hope of maybe seeing a short eared or...

Lol! Didn't expect you to be a user of 'n00b', Tony. Your supposed to be an adult! Anyway, let me know when your coming down, and I'll give you a tour. Try to con your dad into giving you about 2 hours. Will be enough. And try to come at around high tide. I find its best because all the...

The Visitors 'Shed' is on the path running alongside the motorway. If you follow the river, instead of walking along the main path, you come to it. I dont know about Common Gulls on the boating lake I'm afraid. Dont go there very often.

Hmm, I've never seen them on Southsea Common. However, you can get 10/15ft from them at Farlington no problem, especially the groups that hang around just past the visitors 'centre'. Dunno what's at Farlington right now though. Haven't been out for a while, what with exams and that. Just the...

Funny you keep mentioning Pied Wagtail roosts. I'd never see large numbers until a few weeks ago. Gunwarf in Pompey looks like its got one. Hundreds of birds appeared to be roosting on the roof of the bowling alley, or beyond. Streams of them all flew over at dusk.

Yo Tony. Any chance the partridges you saw could have been Red Legged Partridge? Anyway, popped down to the New Forest early this morning, just on a whim, hoping to have more success than on the last visit. First I visited the Beaulieu Heath and woods, near the train station. A pair of...

Not too shabby. There were 2 Dartford Warblers at Farlington marsh today! I didnt spot them, but I heard two induviduals, each at either end of the reserve. I'll probably head down there early tomorrow to get a visual hopefully.

Hayling Island and Farlington Marsh Had a look in on Hayling Island, Hampshire today, to take a wander around the Mussel beds. Stopped off at the seafront to the south of the island, to see if there was anything at sea. Turned out there wasn't! (wrong weather I suppose), except a Great Crested...

JohnnyH, Thanks. I've been keeping an eye out for Knots at Farlington, but havent spotted any. I heard that the main bulk of their flock sticks to Hayling, so I'll have a look. J Moss

Another visit to Farlington Marsh today. Got there about 10:30ish. Bitterly cold, and a cloudless sky. I wasnt really dressed for it, which was a massive put-off and my heart wasnt really in it at first. The first lap of the place didnt really produce anything different to what I saw on...

Would your parents rather wander round Gunwarf or something? If so, I could meet you somewhere and do the lap with you. You really need about 3 hours to get the most out of it.

Afternoon at Farlington Marsh Spent the afternoon at Farlington marsh today. Got there around 1pm. The weather was overcast, with a fairly strong wind. Not ideal, especially considering the tripod on my scope is rubbish. Isnt usually too much of a problem though. i like to try and sit or...

I agree. Twas a realy good day. Great to see the Dartford Warblers, especially. It would be interesting to hear what people think of the Reed Buntings. we saw winter males and some 1st winters (I think). Tony, have you ever seen them before on the pool on the North side? Thanks for the...

Also, Yateley Common sounds like an amazing place. I will have to try and visit sometime, as im currently staying in Pompey. Are the birds you saw in the previous thread resident, or passing through?
