Paddyfield Warbler I made the trip to Blakeney Point today for the Paddyfield Warbler. Generally this involved a couple of hours watching a patch of sueda with occasional appearances from Dunnock, Meadow Pipits, Linnets and Reed Buntings. Just before the organised flush at 2:00pm a pale...

Kestrel goings on This was the first Kestrel I have seen land in my garden. It does not appear to be in great condition having lost lots of feathers from round its face. It was being harassed by a healthier looking female seen in flight only. These shots were through my bedroom window.

I went to Holkham Pines today with Alison and we walked to Burnham Overy Dunes. As we got to Meals House there was a bit of a commotion as a Moorhen rolled down the tiled roof and fell to the ground. It sat for a few moments then flew onto a fence and away. Strange behaviour. 3:-)

Marsh Harriers At least 7 Marsh Harriers left the Cley roost on Wednesday. 2 or three females, an adult and an immature male and this very dark morph. All adds to the variety.

The ghost of Jackdaws past I was checking the focusing of my camera this afternoon and just fired off some shots of a large flock of Jackdaws with a few Rooks. A cursory check on the computer made me wish I had taken more notice as one bird appears to be leucistic. Just to the west of Langham.

OK I'll play 'Outraged from Langham' :C First time offence? First time caught may be more accurate as the RSPB and police were alerted by members of the public who had previously found poisoned birds on or near the estate. This has been described as the worst crime of this type in England so I...

Slightly better images today. I gave the grid ref to another birder who was texting RBA - hopefully this helped identify the exact site

Isabelline Shrike There was a fair group of people at the shrike but they kept back a reasonable distance. When the bird showed in a dead elder it was carrying a haw in its bill and was being mobbed by a Robin. The views through my 10x42's was poor but even so I took a couple of shots of the...

Well done on the shrike and for getting the news out quickly. We had just got back to our car (parked next yours) when the pager went off. A couple of birds in Wells Woods have been diificult to give precise directions to so I have downloaded the GR grid reference app - this was on my previous...

Migrant fest We joined in the frenzy yesterday, heading out to Gun Hill for the Radde's Warbler. No sign of the target bird but there were loads of Goldcrests and Robins with a few Blackcap and Chiffchaff to whet the appetite. Then it was off to Wells Woods for the Radde's. We went straight to...

We had a pleasant stroll out for the Steppe Grey Shrike at Burnham Norton today. Great views of the bird as it visited some provided mealworms. As we were leaving a pair of Common Cranes circled overhead as a bonus.

Rather than walking down the main road you can cross from the layby, walk through the gap in the hedge and walk down the permissive path. at the bridge follow the directions from Phil.

Olive-backed Pipit The Olive-backed Pipit was showing well this afternoon - my first opportunity to get there after a weekend with the grandkids. More shots on my Flickr site.

Pallid Swift The Pallid Swift was usually pretty distant at Cley but at one point it passed overhead at some height. I think I can just make out a shorter first primary on its left wing in this photo. I hope better photos emerge but not from my camera I'm afraid. :t:

Thanks for the heads up Kieran, I went down today (Tuesday 22nd) and the bird is still there. Dave

WeBS wonder I found this bird during my WeBS count of the Eye field at Cley. It made me think for a while then I realised it's an Australian Wood Duck. Now it was wary and some must have been displaced by the recent fires but I think it will be hard to get this past the recorder .... ;)

Greenish Warbler at Burnham Overy dunes A bit late but I thought I would share my best photo of the Greenish Warbler from Sunday. This at least shows that I did see the right bird after excitedly drawing everyone's attention to a Willow Warbler that I had my camera on. :eek!: Dave

I spent a couple of hours on Thursday morning looking for the eagle with no luck. In the afternoon it was reported flying north just 200 yards from one of my viewpoints so I went back for another couple of hours at Holt Lowes. Again no sign of eagle or other birders. Where do people normally...

Holt Lowes We spent a couple of hours this afternoon scanning over the Glaven Valley at Holt Lowes. We saw Common Buzzard and Sparrowhawk but no eagle sp. Dave

Two-barred Crossbill Having dipped on the male at Cley then the immature at Kelling Heath we went to Lynford this afternoon. We had some good scope views of both an immature and the adult female Two-barred Crossbills. Here are a couple of digiscoped shots of the female and an obscured view of...

New garden record Maybe this is a sign that local birds are moving even if the summer migrants are delayed. A new bird in the squirrel proof feeder today and a new record for my garden was this male Reed Bunting.

Pretty in pink There was a striking Black-headed Gull on the freshmarsh at Titchwell today. It had a really nice pink flush to the usually white hind neck and underparts. The first picture shows it displaying to a normally coloured bird. The other picture shows how distinctive this bird was...
