Are Lesser Redpolls common in captivity? I know that 'yellowpolls' aren't that rare in the wild and have to say I assumed it would be from a colour-ringing programme in Britain or elsewhere. Any more info/suggestions appreciated.

Snettisham Coastal Park 'Yellowpoll' Recently at Snettisham Coastal Park there has been a confiding Lesser Redpoll (actually a 'Yellowpoll' by the looks of it) frequenting the small grassy pathways past the carpark. Interestingly, as you can see from the pics taken by my nan Pam Rand, it is...

Major spring surprise - ALPINE ACCENTOR So yesterday was the day when my birding dreams came true, it all came together and I found a completely unexpected MEGA at Holme! A quick peek at the charts and conditions suggested it would be worth an early start and so me and Sophie were on site at...

Sounds like a great day's birding whilst I was indoors doing essay work. Well done Jim on the Red-flanked Bluetail, should have been ours yesterday! Just rewards for a hard-working birder. Also congrats to Sophie at Holme for finding the male Bluethroat there, years since the last Holme record...

Morning and early afternoon spent at Holme. Small arrival on land with 2 Spotted Flycatchers and an Arctic Skua offshore. Sacked it off mid-afternoon to join the warden on an errand to Walsey Hills where we enjoyed the male Red-backed Shrike. What with the 2 Red-backed Shrikes, 2 Wrynecks and...

Personally speaking I am very grateful, and I'm sure other Norfolk birders are also very grateful, to have had the opportunity to see many of the good birds John has found in recent years (Blyth's Reed Warbler, Great-spotted Cuckoo, Common Rosefinch and so on). Don't know what this rubbish about...

On less morbid note, yesterday at Holme did feel slightly better, with the Black Redstart and 2 singing Chiffchaffs, as well as a light trickle of finches, wagtails and pipits overhead. Rob's Woodcock was clearly part of a wider east coast movement, with a superb 67 counted at Gibraltar Point...

Auk wreck N Norfolk coast This last week has clearly seen something of a wreck of auks along the N Norfolk coast. At Holme, 4 Puffins have now been found, with 3 discovered yesterday afternoon and a single earlier in the week. Considering the relative scarcity of Puffins at Holme (this is more...

Was that ever proven? Seem to remember the Norfolk Bird Report, for instance, only confirming presence of one bird?

Good day today.... Started with the very confiding Dipper at long last at Thetford and a bonus Otter along the river. Bumpy ride back to west Norfolk(!) but missed the White-tailed Eagle at Dodd's Hill by 5 minutes. Thankfully me and dad relocated it by the Sandringham-Anmer road and then...

RE: WT Eagle - since when has the east side of Dersingham been near Houghton?! Any more exact location than this, or time other than 'early afternoon'?

Nice day out at Holme and Titchwell today. Highlights included a showy Waxwing on the NOA reserve and a few bits and pieces at Titchwell, including a male and ringtail Hen Harrier into roost, a Bittern and 9 Bramblings around the feeders by the visitor centre. Quite a few Lapwings moving, with...

Hi Peter, I see them pretty much every time I walk down the road and I have never had to wait too long. Presume they are easy throughout the day, although only a single bird on the pager for today...

At least 17 Waxwings now around Rupert Street/York Street junction in Norwich. Proving a very effective distraction from work at the moment. Light was rubbish, they quickly departed to a distant tree but you get the picture...

Norwich Waxwings Been a good week for Waxwings on 'my' side of Unthank Road. On Thursday I found a group of 7 whilst walking down Cambridge Street, on wires outside number 48. Unfortunately I was rushing to an appointment and only had my phone with me, so despite them being very obliging I only...

Think 'The Birds of Norfolk' refs one previous record of 4(?) together at Brancaster but doing this from memory so maybe not. Are these/any previous Norfolk records still considered acceptable?
