Well now! I think I may just have to look into this 'extra', price notwithstanding. I guess my only negative is that price which, for an accessory, is very dear. If it makes such a difference, I guess I'll have to look into it (so to speak...). -

A month or so in, and the NLs are proving a pleasure to use. The strengths that have become apparent after a few weeks of birding are not necessarily quite what I expected. The optics are lovely and I've so far appreciated the bit of extra reach the 10x give me over 8x though I like that extra... -

So, I went for the NLs in the end. They were used but in terrific condition and I can see where you're coming from...very elegant indeed, even in the more traditional green. I've not yet had time to give them a proper run out, but my first impression is that these will complement my sf 8x42s... -

I feel nudged towards the nls. A few fl aficionados are keeping that idea afloat but I know the view through that instrument will have to be super good to beat the nl. Well, it's not going to, let’s face it. The fl will have to feel much nicer than the nl which I already think rests so easily... -

Realistically, my choice is between Zeiss fl 8x32, and nl Pure 10x32 as both are being offered at good prices, and having just forked out on a new lightweight scope, I have half an eye on my pocket. I love my sf 8x42s and I may go for the harness option when my body can't take the strain of... -

With a used pair of Zeiss Fl 8x32 on their way to me to try out, I wonder how they compare with the SFLs. From this thread and opinions more generally, I get the impression the Fls are treasured by their owners...but that doesn't mean they've not been improved on. And it looks to me as though... -

You've got a point, but after 7 or 8 years, I've never felt any need or desire to upgrade my 8x42 sfs. It's just that 8x32 (or 10x32) slot, and that's becoming more significant as I move on towards late middle age...weight of instrument in other words. -

Inevitably for such fine binoculars, each has its admirers. In the end it will be the relationship between my unique pair of eyes and each instrument that will determine my choice. Maybe, too, the ergonomics of the binoculars which, as well, will be a question of my physical self in relation... -

It's like I said, practicality v optics. They're both going to be great optically with the NLs likely to be a bit better...but if the FLs are lighter and more compact while the others feel too heavy...well, it's a trade-off one way or the other. Lots of ifs, but it could end up being a crystal... -

I'll be very interested to compare the image in a well-used Zeiss FL with a pristine Swaro Pure. A complicating factor is the magnification with FL 8x32 and NL 10x. I guess I won't know until I've looked through and held both...not sure I'll even know then! -

There's the option of a headrest for the NLs. That would steady the image but my gut instinct at needing one isn't very positive. I'm looking for light weight portability after all. Everywhere I see FLs mentioned they come with comments of great affection; no one seems to want to part with... -

I think what you say makes a lot of sense. I have to ask myself why I am replacing those Conquests and it's primarily a question of weight and size, neither of which would be addressed by the NLs (and both of which would be by the FLs). When I handled and looked through the NLs I was... -
