    Older alpha vs newer mid-range scopes

    Yep, the old Leica zoom eyepieces have a rather small FOV, compared to modern zooms. Your friend might try to find the Leica 30X WA. That's an excellent eyepiece, and in many situations 30x is enough magnification. There was also a 20x WA at the time. Also a very, very nice eyepiece. Too true...
