AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

Thanks. As to why AX itself performs worse than the app on the same photos then, I'll return to the previous idea of some limitation due to processing speed. The four-segment display also suggests a need to entertain and reassure the user that something is happening. How long does the process...

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

This question may have got lost. I'm wondering whether the AI power that improves detection of birds in poor photos when using the Merlin app on a phone is actually in the cloud, which Visio itself has no access to, limiting its success.

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

The immediate question is what proportion of failures in your use of Visio have been of detection of a bird at all, vs identifying species. Then we can wonder how much higher magnification in the camera would help, and how. I wonder whether all that can be happening on your phone; perhaps some...

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

I thought few of them were actual detection failures, but am having trouble relocating them to check. Perhaps Canip can answer this question himself.

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

Visio distinguishes between ID failure and detection failure.

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

Playing such games adds no information and should make no difference to ID, at least not without AI enhancement, so one could wonder whether that's what's employed in the Merlin app on a phone but not in Visio itself.

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

As you pointed out yourself, if Merlin often IDs the same photo later, the real problem is not distance or focal length. Thanks for all your reports!

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

Yes, effective focal length depends on sensor size; where are these two specs documented? Such a camera is essentially producing postcard photos, which are really not what the purchaser of a binocular-camera would want for most purposes.

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

Song Sparrow. (processing time 0.1 sec) I do think this, and not the built-in ID, is what more people will ultimately want.

AX Visio: is it really as bad as some reviewers claim??

This problem might be very easily fixed in a software update: Visio could store your last location when shut off, and re-use that initially until a new one is acquired. How large is the difference? That seems unexpected and disappointing. Could greater magnification not be well achieved in...
