    I did my best one year with a hefty tally from northern Namibia... don't remember what the global total was that year though. I think we could achieve the 1000 if Delia had an extra dram or two on New Year's Eve and then had an 'enlightened' day to follow 😅

    Found the missing bird - Least Flycatcher , which will be new for México and North America I had actually mistyped - the second Least Sandpiper should have been this bird :)

    Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico. First birds of the day, all by spotlight, Common Pauraque, then Killdeer, then Yellow-crowned Night Heron. Spent the morning in coastal scrub and lagoons at Rio Lagartos, then shifted inland to forest at Xocen. 120 species in all. Blue-winged Teal American Flamingo...

    Likewise, got a zero on Mottled Owl and Middle American Screech Owl. Fortunately, Ferruginous Pygmy Owl played ball earlier 👍

    Still 90 minutes of 1 January left. But not going to get anymore today ...120 species for the day, Yucatan. Will post full list a little later
