    Habicht for birdwatching?

Ironic isn't it that the fabled waterproof porro doesn't have a functional rain guard. The ga versions are unfortunately the same plastic ones just green, they may be slightly larger but not wide enough to cover a decent range of ipd adjustments. The i.f versions rainguard is actually rubber...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Cheers Pat, I did remember your brief dalliance with them last year - amazing how quickly the dab of white glue in them is forgotten! I think that must be used quite often as my old srga's from Japan had that too. I have the same impression of the 2. The other thing with the Nikon is there...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Which begs the question which would you take birding on a fair weather day and why? I like both for completely different reasons and uses, it's an interesting comparison.

    Habicht for birdwatching?

I replaced it with an SLC 8x56 hd, which itself has now been replaced by the SLC neu 7x42b as it's a bit smaller and lighter - I've been very impressed by it so far. I like a 6/7mm exit pupil in my birding bin - all 3 offer that and have their pro's and cons, the SLC '56 is the best view, the...

    Habicht for birdwatching?

As a proud owner of an 8x30 I like mine too but would caveat that by saying I think it's probably (arguably!) the worst binocular Swarovski make.

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Have you looked through any of them other than the 8x30 yet?

    Habicht for birdwatching?

If I digress for a moment. The binocular on the left does say habicht on it and is arguably a better birding glass than any of the traditional porro line your referring to pictured on the right. It's the "habicht" I currently use for birding. Will

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Yes the habichts are good for most types of bird watching, maybe not the i.f ga 8x30 but that's a bit niche anyway! I used the 7x42 exclusively for birding for a year or so and it was excellent.

    Habicht for birdwatching?

Hi Reinier. I've owned both the 7x42 ga and currently the 8x30 if ga (as if I haven't mentioned it enough already!). I also have the Nikon e2 which I now use as my main bino - the habicht is getting used a lot at the moment due to the new toy factor but eventually it will be just for kayaking...
