Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Color rendition, in-hand feel, focuser. I actually retired my 8x20 Ultravid the day the Curio arrived in the mail, and surprised myself by switching back when doing some comparisons a couple weeks later. I could easily stay with the Curio alone, but for reasons that would stymie many, I still...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I think many of its use the 8x20 Ultravid with out index fingers to literally index the binocular at our brows, essentially spacers, which eliminates the blackouts. I to find the Curio to be easier to use and brighter, but still prefer the Ultravid.

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

That’s what my parents chose to name me. :) But seriously, it was mostly laziness in thinking up a name, coupled with the fact I’d just recently bought my first binocular, a Leitz 8x32b, which I no longer have. For a time there, I had nothing but Leitz/Leica, and still mostly so, though I...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I have an 8x20 Leitz that is still a useful binocular and anything Leica is better yet. If you can get a good price there’s not much risk in giving them a try. The minimalist proportions is one of the things that I really do enjoy about the tiny Leitz.

I've got all three of those as well, and now I finally feel validated!

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I’d take an Ultravid in either 5,6 or 7x, based on my 5x Nikon, 6x Leitz and Zeiss, and others.

I think this belongs here too…

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I was actually surprised to find that I like the additional focusing resistance of the Ultravid over the silky and effortless Curio, and even though the latter has the absolute perfected twist up eyecups, the ergonomics, color presentation, focusing and feel in-hand forced me back to the...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Just to reiterate, you actually need all three, but maybe start out with the BL first.

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

You might not notice in all settings but if I’m using the Ultravid and Curio side by side I’m always immediately struck with how greenish the Curio view is in direct comparison with the warmth of the Ultravid. It’s subtle enough that I can still enjoy going back and forth between the two but...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

You actually need to buy all three; 8x20 BL, BR and the Curio. I’ve got all three and none of them are for sale!

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I really like lower magnification and together with many of these other positive statements in the forum finally decided to get them. From the moment I opened the box and looked across the street I was struck with how easy the eye alignment and how crisp and bright the view. At that moment I...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

The Curio is the only binocular I've bought new from a vendor, but after becoming my #1 for a couple of weeks the Ultravid found its way back into that spot, where it remains to this day. I'll never get rid of the Curio, and could be happy if it was my only binocular, but happier yet to have the...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

What an excellent summation for what is the only binocular that I've purchased multiples of. The two pairs I gifted were both exclaimed to be far brighter, sharper and saturated with color than either one of the recipients thought possible with such a tiny binocular. I still have three of them...
