Why do you prefer the Ultra ??

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I have to agree, the Curios are brighter and just a better image. I only noticed on side by side comparison, as the Leicas are great on a stand alone session. Shame about that armour, just as we've been saying generally how well Leicas are built. I found the Ultras quite difficult to use...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Funnily enough I have been out this afternoon with my mate who bought my old 8x42 Conquests, so got to play with them again. I only had my Ultra 8x20's with me. On a sunny afternoon, there was obviously not much difference in brightness, but what I did notice was that the image was 'better'...

I've looked through Kowa Genesis.... CA control is superb, image was good, but I would put it firmly in the £1000 catagory.... exactly where it is!! I don't think it punches above its' weight, I don't think it outperforms a Conquest, they are all similar in optical quality, but with different...

And that's the Oakley bag, folded into thirds sat in the bottom of the Lowepro, as a bit of added protection for the lenses.

Nah.... just perfect.... the caps are too fiddly... this works a treat and protects the lenses... i'm fanatical about that.... The Oakley ones are internally lens cloths so your lenses will be fine. It's the Oakley bag for pockets, and the Lowepro for a rucksack, or general storage when not using.

I use an Oakley sunglasses bag, and it works a treat. Got the idea from someone else on here. Adds nothing to the size when in your pocket, but protects the lenses(y)

That pretty much sums up my take on these Ultravids... They're are a bit awkward, double hinge etc.... but they more than make up for this with the optics, build quality, and crazy portability. Get 'em in your pocket and go.... awesome (y)

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

So today, at the Birders' Store in Worcester, I have just tried the 8x20 Ultra's against the Zeiss VP8x25's, and the Curios. I used to own the Ultravids a few years back, and was always mightily impressed with them. But things have moved on, and the Curios are (to my eyes) better than the Zeiss...
