Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Its a bummer. I must admit to suppressing a mild chuckle with the armour bit especially as SW are getting a bit of stick on the forum (and rightly so). It just goes to show how our facial/eye structures affect our bino use and how personal it is. One mans meat and all that. But they are a...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Well they arrived this morning just as the sun shone through the rain. A quick unpack and inspection showed a protrusion/split on the seam of the barrel armour. Oh dear. I gave them a quick test but their eye relief made it almost impossible for me to get a clear FOV without a smidgen of...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I will report back. I must admit that I truly love the Curio's, they are a wonderful little binocular and so far my knob hasn't fallen off and the body coating is still coating the body with no wear at all. Out this morning in the pouring rain watching 5 Cygnets in the mini-lake that has...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Clifton Cameras (UK) have a 10-20% discount on selected Leica binoculars (ends today sorry, just seen it) which takes the Ultravid 8x20 down from £629 to £503.20.........which is a very nice discount. I have long wondered what is so special about them, not helped in part by the excellent...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Totally agree which again reinforces the well worn response to those seeking advice, try before you buy. I found, much to my surprise, in testing back to back that there were marginal differences between brands and it came down to the handling and what felt right for me.

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

They are stunning. I love 'em too (and the 7x42). Very lucky to find a Habicht in stock, never heard of the Birders' Store but I feel a strong urge to get all my jabs done and drive over the Welsh Border to Worcester. LOL! My youngest son flew Merlin Helicopters. They had more glued...

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

Which confirms that the best binocular in any class or price range is the one that suits you best. I thought the Ultravid was a cracking bino when I tested it alongside the Curio and it was a close run thing but the Curio did it for me.

Bling? Is that code for "As Flash as a Rat with a Gold Tooth." ? :)

Leica Ultravid 8x20 dissection (The beauty)

I agree which is why I bought a Curio after testing most of the pocket, and not so pocket, binoculars side by side. All were 'good to superb' but for me the Curio was the nicest to hold, fold away and optically its eye relief was perfect for me. Were I in the market for a 'just a bit bigger'...
