    The volcanic rocks in the wall look like those around Zion NP in Utah. The evaporation ring around the shore suggests a reservoir, but it's odd that so little of it is showing because they're running low lately out there.

    Sightmark(?) just isn't on my radar; is the outer field usably sharp? Apart from the outliers I mentioned previously, models I'm familar with (Leica, Swaro, EDG etc) typically run around 420 ft at 7x vs 408 ft at 8x. A 3% gain in TFOV for a 12.5% drop in magnification doesn't appeal to me.

    Agreed, but this is the one case where its meaning is clear and straightforward: comparing different magnifications. No, seldom. Most modern 7x bins have smaller fields than many 8x while a few are about the same, the rare standouts being Zeiss Dialyt/FL and Nikon E II, and even then not by a...

    Actually the striking omission here is 32mm glass... and those have more modest ER too, so is that why?
