Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Here is another response from Swarovski concerning the armor issues. "Good Afternoon Dennis, Thank you for your inquiry! You have several questions here, so I'll try to break a response down by question. *When did you change to a biodegradable armor? The Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU)...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I emailed Swarovski about the armor issued with their binoculars, and this was their reply. "Good afternoon, Dennis In accordance with its corporate philosophy, Swarovski Optik is committed to using top-quality, sustainable materials in its products. The armoring on the instruments in question...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

When Zeiss first came out with the FL's they weren't textured and the armor was quite smooth and almost too slick. Most of the green models are like this because they were made in first part of the production. I think they might have gotten some complaints, so later in production they textured...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

The armor on the FL feels 10x tougher than the NL or EL. Zeiss should have never changed them. The fiber reinforced plastic also beats magnesium. Lighter, warmer in the winter and stronger.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Actually, the edges are very sharp and the FOV seems very wide. They surprised me. No glare like the NL either, they are brighter than the NL and no biodegradable armor. I think the armor would endure a nuclear war.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Buy a pair of these Zeiss 8x42 FL's, and you won't have any problems with cracked armor. These are over 15 years old and have seen considerable use. They only weigh 26 oz. and have better CA control than any NL, EL, SF or Noctivid...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Maybe they can re armour them with Zeiss armour. That way they would last. ;)

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

You can tell the non-SV EL's had a different kind of armour. It was much tougher in feel and appearance. The newer EL's and NL's have a much softer, cushier armour.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Nobody had any armour problems with the original EL(non-SV) armour? So you would be safe with one of those. I wonder if the deterioration of armour is due to UV and sun instead of chemicals.

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

I think the SLC's had a different type of armour than the El and NL, especially the newer ones. It always appeared tougher to me. The newer NL really has a softer armour than the older EL and SLC. Maybe they had to make it softer and more flexible to conform to the weird contours of the NL wasp...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

It looks like the armour became brittle and lost its elasticity. It is different from the Canon armour that melts. It looks terrible!
