Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

That's exactly what they are doing now. See below replies from their customer service in response to my questions about the subpar material continuing to be used in repairs, which will likely recur in the same time frame in future. "Make no sense" indeed! "Due to the used sustainable material...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

It's been discussed before that the problematic armour is from ~2015 onwards when they changed to a more eco friendly material. Your 15 year old armour should be more robust. Hopefully they have used the same material for your older bins, instead of switching you for this lousy eco material

Just pointing out diekmann2's hypocrisy in not believing others' "unsupported statements" (his words), yet doing the same thing himself of citing his "birdingmate" to make a point. Unlike diekmannn2, I believe all of you :)

Good to hear that, hope it holds up well! I will hold out on my repair for now, might wait for the new material. Migration season's starting soon anyway.

@John Cantelo has posted a very useful update with new information from his exchange with Swarovski at Global Bird Fair. Many thanks for checking with them and sharing on this forum John Cantelo's post Great news about 2 new formulae being tested. Sounds like Swarovski HQ is well aware of the...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Only used a borrowed ATX a couple of times but the armour seemed different from my EL FP's. Can't comment much further. This comment by a Johan Chaves on Facebook group said that ATX is fine but BTX armour has the same armour that degrades similar to his experience with EL.

Hehe a few really interesting people on here. Anyway sorry to make another unsubstantiable claim here but I got in touch with the person behind the tweet and from our chat it all seems legit.

It might not prevent damage from big knocks, but i think the armour would help with smaller knocks and bumps in the course of field use, and also scuffs and scrapes on the metal. Might it also help with heat insulation in hot and cold conditions? Black metal surfaces get hot easily under direct...

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Have you used these EL/NL/SLC with this armour? Not sure how you can tell frm pics if the armour is soft. It's softer than the armour on my other optics. But does seem to harden up and secrete some oily substance once the material degradation kicks in. At least from my experience as this issue...

Well well what do we have here now? Also, several replies to the tweet indicate more failures on NL (all rights belong to the respective accounts, appending photos for ease of reference for those w/o a twitter account)

Hermann's reply might have been in response to another poster's doubt over my reply to claves_10 that “Yes, I am in contact with Swarovski Optik HQ senior management but not at liberty to disclose details of our correspondence as yet.”

Problem with green coating of EL SV 8x32

Yes, the material gets sticky and crumbles off in the hand, leading to holes in the armour that grow with time. Not cosmetic/optical - actual functional implications.
