The Zeiss SFL 8x30 compared with select current 8x30/8x32 roof binoculars

Well, that is considerably cheaper than I found it (including the cashback). In the end, I paid around CHF 1300. But I agree that it is a great tool if size/weight are important.

The Zeiss SFL 8x30 compared with select current 8x30/8x32 roof binoculars

It's all a matter of priorities. Water resistance, weight, minimum focus, eye relief suitable for glasses are among those I weigh high, and porros usually do poorly.

The Zeiss SFL 8x30 compared with select current 8x30/8x32 roof binoculars

At least for the moment, I do have larger models (x42) as well. Whether I'm going to keep them in the long run is open. But I foresee their main use around the house now with the SFL probably being predominantly used for trips and hikes.

The Zeiss SFL 8x30 compared with select current 8x30/8x32 roof binoculars

The 30mm comes with such a considerable weight saving and still provides an excellent view that this version is like the proverbial "offer you can't refuse". Even my wife whom I knew she wanted a 10x version opted for the 30mm. The weight reduction was what impressed her sufficiently. Of course...

The Zeiss SFL 8x30 compared with select current 8x30/8x32 roof binoculars

My left hand fingers remain on the left barrel, As mentioned in my post #1 here ( SFL30 comments and experiences), the focusing is done by joint use of my index and middle fingers of the right hand.
