They’re my local camera shop even though they’re 99 miles away🙄 How did you get on at Bombay Hook?

I called into Allens Camera in Levittown on my way home from Barnegat yesterday afternoon. Superb, wonderful bricks and mortar camera shop.(y)(y)(y)

Last Saturday they were on Bear Swamp. Do you drive or get the Cape May to Lewes Ferry? I like the ferry as you can see some good birds and cetaceans at times. I first went on the ferry in 1975 and had a superb fresh bacon sandwich make in the galley. On my next ferry ride, 2 or 3 years ago I...

Very different from last Thursday. I’m too wrecked at the moment to do a blog post. I did find out something today that’s interesting. I tried walking out along the sand intending to cross the stream feeding the lake they created a couple of years ago. It was too deep to cross so I had to walk...

I was there last Thursday and I saw the same tracks. Warning! Graphic Images - Mike's Photographs There was a big flock of Snow Buntings there on January 3rd when I was there. Last Thursday the folks I spoke to on the jetty told me there were about 100 on the way out and when I met them in the...

Thursday is currently forecast to be sunny with light SW winds of 5-10 mph. Friday is mostly cloudy with winds from the SSW of 10-20 mph. It’s the higher wind speeds that I avoid due to the splash factor particularly nearer the end of the jetty where the Harlequins usually hang out. I...

I'm hoping to get back out to Barnegat on Thursday as the conditions appear to be ideal at present. Apparently there's flock of about 100 Snow Buntings in the dunes that I missed in both directions last week. I'd like to get a shot of those and the multitude of sea duck of course.

Dak, I apologize. I went to Barnegat yesterday and forgot to tell you I was going. I called in to the Bluetail on the way home but didn’t see it this time. Apparently it’s not as regular at the moment. There were about 10 people there at most yesterday. You should go as Harry Riker the homeowner...

The Z 400 f/4.5 is very good with a 1.4 TC apparently. Don’t discount the 180-600 though. Check the fredmiranda thread on the 180-600. Official Nikon Z 180-600mm f5.6-6.3 VR Image Thread

What camera do you own? I presume it's a Z something and as you're already using an F mount 200-500 you must already own the FTZ. You do realize that to use the 500 prime with a 1.4 teleconverter you have to use the F mount TC-14E III. If you're thinking of the 500PF f/5.6 with the 1.4...

Considering the Z180-600 is $1699 before tax I know what I would go for providing Dak has a Z camera.

Absolutely agree. The earlier 500mm f/4 lenses are not a whole lot better than the 500PF, much longer and heavier and I’d personally be wary of spare parts availability for them whereas the 500PF is more current.

The only used F mount I would bother with is the 500PF, I used it for years and it really is a great lens. On mirrorless you need the FTZ to mate it with Z mount but it’s a short, lightweight lens anyway and you hardly know it’s there. I hear it’s pretty good with the F mount 1.4TC III but I’m...

Thanks Guys, funnily enough my favorite is the much more subdued Long-tailed Duck. In 2022 there were several hundred in the inlet and they were superb in the sunlight. Here's a post I did from that day. Barnegat and Brigantine

🤣 Yeah I know. It's always going to be Brig to me, I'll never forget the 2 American Bitterns landing right beside the car back in 1975. As for the warm clothing advice, absolutely. It's really bitter when the wind rips across the inlet. You need multi layered gloves as well as jackets. You...

Where is this Forsythe NWR you keep mentioning? Is it anywhere near Brigantine?🤣 I first visited in 1975 when it was Brigantine and I’ve been regular visitor for years. It will always be Brig to me. I also visit Barnegat Lighthouse SP several times in the Winter months. The jetty is THE place...
