Last day birding looked like it was going to be disaster, rain all the way from Palma but thankfully it stopped minutes after I pulled up at Albufereta. Not much about, then I bumped into a British birder who told me about the Caspian Tern seen from the hide. Next to Albefura and initial hunt...

Willow Warbler or something more exciting, at Son Bosc this morning? For me the bird itself looks too big and the bill is too large, but then I usually only separate them from Chiffchaff in the spring when they are singing. Not the best of images I'm afraid, download from camera to phone then...

    Mallorca 2023

Finally, a day out on my own and a trip north to Son Real. Popped into Son Bosc to see if there was anything around the pools. A Greenshank and several Common Sands along with around 25 Little Grebe, but not much else. Driving out i came across a flock of Goldfinch which had a Warbler mixed in...

All good plans i make end up getting scuppered at some point, and staying up on the hotel balcony until 4am storm watching last night pretty much wrote today off. Can't complain though, got some cracking images to work with when I get home including the attached one. On the bird front today in...

Day 2, and I knew it would happen, wasted half the morning relaxing at the hotel, well I guess it needs to be done. With the forecast looking dodgy, again, I decided to take my wife up to Lluc. She wandered round the monastery while I ended up getting lost following a path up into the...

    Mallorca 2023

First day out and a late start waiting for the rain to clear through Palma. As the forecast didn't look great, I decided to take my wife with me and head south east to the salt pans. I was disappointed to find all the parking spaces roped off now but did manage to park up on the side of the road...

    Mallorca 2023

Hi all Finally arrived on the island, first day out tomorrow. A couple of questions if I may, where is Maristany? When I do a Google search for it, it comes up with Barcelona, and, where are the Spotless Starlings? Hopefully I'll bump into some of you over the coming week. Many thanks, Steve

Bittern are so hard to see at the best of times, I'd put money on there being more than just two in all those reeds. There's a pair at Oare Marshes in Kent that have only been seen a handful of times, even by the locals.

    Mallorca 2023

Hi all, the time has come and I'll be out again on Sunday afternoon for some much needed sun, I won't say heat because it's been like a sauna back here in the UK, especially the south, this past week, and birding, though how much of the latter I get remains to be seen. I've seen the post re the...

Thanks Mike :D sounds like a great day at Dungeness, I've yet to see any decent sea birds down there, but then my sea watching skills aren't up to much anyway. It's bleak down there at the best of times though today was rather wintry, bet you don't miss the good old British weather. I'm hoping...

    Mallorca 2023

Hi all, hope everyone is keeping well? I will be back out in just over two weeks on what was supposed to be a cheap birding trip, but now the family will be in tow, cheap has gone out the window, but birding trip it will still be. I want to visit Lluc, somewhere I still haven't been, and was...

Still going through my photos from my recent visit, was it really nearly 2 weeks ago already, and I was wondering about this Lark, taken running across the old disused road at Cap Blanc. When I took it I thought it was a Thekla's Lark, but looking at the crest, I was wondering if it could be a...

    Mallorca 2023

Back in good old Blighty, had nothing to add to the list after Friday, spent Saturday packing and moving back up to Palma to try and get some sun again before flying home late Sunday. As always, had a great time on the island, lovely to meet Ian, and once again thanks for the help, and anyone...

    Mallorca 2023

Had a scour through my photos of the Little Bittern from yesterday and I'm glad I looked really close before deleting them. I managed to get this sequence of the adult feeding the juvenile and then being chased out of the reeds. With all those reeds in the foreground and around the birds it was...

    Mallorca 2023

Couldn't believe I managed to wangle another couple of hours out today, though with wife and daughter in tow I wasn't going to push my luck. Walked to the hide at Son Real and had some good views of a Hoopoe, and Corn Bunting and a Nightingale bathing, and a close up of a Med Flycatcher. Then a...

Nearly binned this but thought I'd give it a go anyway, an Osprey eyeing up the Roller. Only just got them both in the frame, will have to open the attachment to see them

    Mallorca 2023

Day pass out today and I was determined to make the most of it, though would have helped if I could of got out of bed this morning. First stop Albufera and after a slow start it picked up quite nicely. Walking down the approach road I had a distant view of a Purple Heron then only saw one Night...
