    Hi Mike It's a native cricket. I get plenty of them when I moth trap in Mallorca -- but I can't recall the name [edit: Gryllus bimaculatus, the Southern Field Cricket]!

    Hi Stew Your Common Blue MAY have been the Southern Common Blue, Polyommatus icarus. I personally can't tell them apart but it is supposed to be on the islands. Martin

    I was always told that the habitat had changed which is why it failed - and most of the birds flew off within days, just one remained on the Gran Canal for a while. Martin

    They're reasonably common but often hard to see - unless in flight. I've also seen them on the Arta peninsula. September may be a little too late for them.

    Glad to know they are still being seen. It's important to differentiate between adult nectar sources and larval foodplants. The former is probably quite a long list but the latter should be quite short (possibly just the adventive asclepiad species, Gomphocarpus fruticosus). Search Results
