That last picture of the Brush Turkey really shows well how they hold their tail. I believe the only species that does that! Cheers Mike.

I got some great sightings of the Regent Bowerbird Mike... very showy and beautiful guys, aren't they. Sadly didn't see any Pittas, though Hans and Judy did try hard for me. Saw some movement in the undergrowth in a place where they thought they should be, but couldn't see the blooking bird...

LOL It was the Honeyeater I was referring to Mike. Missed the rail entry I'm afraid. I never saw that one, don't think I even heard it!!! I made some recordings of the Whipbirds on my phone, but have no idea how to deal with them now to get them into the Opus page.

That looks to be beautiful unspoiled habitat!!! Surprised it's taken you so long to see Lewin's though, unless they're scarce in your area! But annoyed you got such a cracking view of the whipbird when all I got was a sense of movement under a bush!!! Well done indeed. Thanks Mike.

It was strange with the woodpecker. I saw it initially and thought it was an error you'd be sorting. Then when I went to double-check on it a few days later I couldn't find it! So I thought you had deleted it.

I saw so little of mangroves in Queensland Mike. the odd bush or even a tiny sapling; they just seem to have grubbed them all out to build houses (in one case to improve the view from some houses!)

I really fell in love with these Mike. They're so entertaining, aren't they. As you say, a bit of a struggle to photograph them at times though LOL

Really jealous of your pardalote views. My only one was high above me on a tree branch!!!

I'd pondered this for a while then Andy Hurley posted about it in Taxonomy: Australian Masked Owl/Australian Reed Warbler, why not Australasian? Seems we just need to 'learn them' as there's often no sense behind it LOL

Indeed the stilts were split some years ago. The one mostly seen in Australia is generally known as Pied Stilt, though alternative names are White-headed and Australian. Interestingly I've just found out there's another species of stilt in Oz - the Banded Stilt, found in southern and...

Beautiful! Couldn't have been a better first of the morning thread to open. Thanks Mike.

Looking forward to your reports Mike, should bring back some memories, even though I didn't get to NSW (saw it though from the top of a mountain LOL). Think I saw everything on your list so far, except the Pacific Reef Heron. Puzzled by the Grey-backed Butcherbird though. Can't find anything...
