    Could migration routes be traced back to where birds evolved in ancient times?

    Wasn't aware of the winter range expansion, but I'm glad to hear it since at least Cuba is not that far off from Bahamas and the Western Part of the islands has plenty of habitat that cannot be taken over by population growth and has minimal human disturbance.

    You have the right idea, but sadly speciation and geological times don't work this neatly. Pangaea is a supercontinent that was already splitting apart before the first dinosaurs that could be considered avian dinosaurs (or birds) roughly 175mya. Thanks to limited but preserved fossil record...
