Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Just so you know - at minus 42 degrees C - the Aurora met her limit. Been blooming parky in the interior at the Swedish / Norwegian border. Focusing became harder and slow. This did not happen when it was warmer (minus 18 to minus 25) during the day.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

That is a real shame. I've thrashed mine across mountain moorland and sea, and the binocular just melts away leaving me 'in the view'. I am 100% serious when I say I would not swap sell or get rid of these no matter what.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Aurora 8x42. My thoughts after 2 years and counting: A true field grade professional piece of kit. Excellent optics, impeccable build. Faultless performance. I'll be working & birding with these for a long, long time ahead as there is absolutely zero want or need from me for anything else. A...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I found the same. The 7x35 is a delightfully nice view, but the Aurora gives me a deep feeling of contentment with that crystal clear clarity and wonderful crispness. That and the eye relief is much better (and it is nitrogen purged for bad weather, which I am always out in). So yeah, the...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I indeed tried 10x and 8x - But I love the 8x magnification (always have, always will) for under canopy and on the water. That's why it is my 'one and done'.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

The Aurora are better than any Conquest's that I tested. far better (And no, I am not a Zeiss hater, as I own and love the Zeiss VP 8x25) and even against the Zeiss SF, the colours in the Aurora are far creamier, richer, more immersive.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

A massive step up indeed - and worth every penny put into them. I've had mine 2 years + now - and regret not one second of owning them as they are nothing but an exquisite joy in the field.

Not yet - would report on it the moment it happens! And that said, mine take a beating and still just deliver all the goodness. It will be a long, long time before I buy any other binoculars now - Zeiss VP 8x25 and these as a light / field combo.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I feel that once people try them, get them into the field and use them for a bit, then the sum of all the parts creates a whole unit that is incredibly, incredibly hard to beat. I'd not swap or sell mine for anything. Everything I tried before had niggles, had problems, where as the Aurora just...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

One thing to add - I have never once missed my Zeiss 8x42 SF. Not once, especially as the Aurora fit my face and hands absolutely perfect. Eyes to the ocular, instant delight.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Every person who tried my Aurora out in the field has admitted that they never looked at Opticron before, let alone knew they did a professional field grade level bin. The Aurora are magnificent. A solid 9.8 out of 10 from me. They lose .2 for the rain guard. That's it.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Outstanding. My 8x42 have been through hell in their time with me, and they just keep delivering the goodness. Diopter is staying true, no hassle, a true set and forget offering and central location is a gem. Eyecups are fantastic, so so wonderfully comfortable in the field over a long week...

They are a wonderful optic indeed, and have never, ever failed to make me smile as I use them from the seas to the mountain peaks. Enjoy them, and Happy birding!

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

*I am not paid by Opticron in any way. I brought the Aurora with my own money after a prolonged search for a new 8x bin. Had these now for a year. Fit, feel and function out in the field, are all sublime, but there is one area where I have neglected to cover and that is the aquaphobic...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Opticron. Hands down. Build. Fit. Finish. View. The Aurora feels, looks and PERFORMS way way higher than its price bracket. The Hawke IS a great binocular. The Opticron is STELLAR. I have zero hesitation recommending the Opticron. You will be getting a FAR better binocular.

You are more than welcome - I am super glad you are enjoying them. I love mine and have, for me, found a permanent keeper. 8x42 Aurora is blissful to my eyes. Simply blissful.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I don't say this to be mean or rude - but the Opticron Aurora is an absolute monster of a bin and punches way past its price point. Way past. So far past that I'd be happy to have this as my only birding bin ad infinitum. And I got to choose what ever I wanted and compared everything within the...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

4 months in. And I have found, for my face and hands, my perfect bino. Optically stunning. Beyond words - delightfully immersive, and ergonomically, for me, perfect. Lightest of touches to the butter smooth focus snaps the view to the eye. Absolute keepers. So much so that I have the 10x42 on...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

I had the money for any binocular I wanted. Tried a whole slew out, and to my utter amazement, the Opticron fitted my face and hands the best of all I tried. The image is astounding, drinking in the delightfully crisp and vibrant view to be had. I'll not part with these. Nope. I'll have these a...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

8 weeks in, and I have found a binocular that I intend to keep for many years ahead as my primary birding bin. Fit to my hands, fit to my face, and the ocular comfort all just let the binocular melt away and leave me looking at the crystal clear image presented to the eye. And what an image...

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Was a terrible dreary day here in the Highlands, but the Aurora 8x performed flawlessly under the canopy, really popped with details, and then on the beach watching an Arctic Skua harass the local gulls, gave a relaxed, immersive view. Happy to have these as my primary birding bin. More than...

Well I'll make sure to message you any future posts, let my forum posts be censored by you for content and feel - or, wait, I have an even better idea. I'll post what I want. When I want. In a manner that's true and honest from my view point.

Quick & dirty review of 8x42 Opticron Aurora.

Opticron have hit a home run with the 8x42 Aurora. I cannot stress highly enough how anyone searching for a sharp, ferociously bright and robust bino in the 800 UK Sterling ball bark, really needs to give these a look see. With the new, vastly improved FoV, these are a bino to treasure. I've...
