Currently at a life bird stalemate for a while with Yellow-billed Loon at 1,258. Not a bad species to be stuck on, though.

So ABA finally accepted Nanday/Black-hooded. I was about to write an essay on why it should be included as well! It's doing very well around here in the Malibu State Park area and it has been doing so for many years. Lewis' Woodpecker was a nice addition. Saw a few fly over the distance (ID by...

Pigeon Guillemot, Violet-green Swallow (woot) and Chestnut-backed Chickadee. Possible Northern Rough-winged Swallow too. Yet no sign of any Yellow-billed Magpie despite being in their prime habitat for whatever reason....Maybe they aren't as far south as San Jose after all.

My 509th lifer is a Fox Sparrow just down the road here. Saw something skulking in the bushes, thought it was a Fox, then dismissed it as a Song when I saw the pattern on the face but it turns out it was a Fox after all. Had a strange Acciptrid today as well. It was completely dark, much...

Had a Phainopepla at my local park yesterday. Number 494 I think (am still going through old waterfowl records). The peculiar thing was that I was thinking about seeing one here, which is when a black long-tailed bird popped up |8.|.

489- Ring-necked Duck 490- Hermit Thrush At my local park. Was hoping to see the former, but wasn't expecting it. Had a flock of 22 on the little pond. The latter I found via pishing. If I didn't hear that one rustle when it switched branches I never would have seen it. That will go up to 491...

More where that came from. Was afraid that the white was going to bleed as it did on my Cabbage White butterfly shots but they turned out fine. And to top it off a nice sunset on the drive back. Yeah, there's other pictures but Photoshop is being too slow for me today.

488- Sanderling o:D Been wanting them for so long. They have such a charm. New favourite bird. But on the other side I still have to find a Marbled Godwit, Western+Eared Grebe and Surfbird somewhere. As well as Black Turnstone. Marina Del Rey isn't being nice yet.

Adding to my lifers from So Cal, I picked up a Black-crowned Night-heron at a local duck pond. The visit was for my brother's birthday (he's 6). Was not expecting a lifer there at all, especially considering the 50ish birds were all mallards, and many domestic types too.
