Ring Billed Gull yesterday at the Hayle Estuary. Not a sociable lapwing unfortunately but nice to knock off a bird thats always at the top of the 'most common bird you haven't seen' lists for me. Big Thanks to Amy Schwartz for really grilling common gulls and getting it head down on white...

Forster's Tern Brownsea Island. Wasn't the most active, but it's been giving people the run around all week so I guess thats preferable to the alternative.

Richard's Pipit at Awre on sunday. Took a while to nail views but got there in the end. Was apparently the 11th most common bird I didn't already have on my british list so the easy options are disappearing rapidly.

Golden oriole. No pics. An absolute nightmare of a bird to see that I’m very glad I managed

White-tailed lapwing/plover at blacktoft. Twitched from nethy bridge. Only brief views compared to earlier sightings but a great bird

Velvet scoter today at Musselburgh. At least 2 drakes in a small group of sea ducks near the wall. Hopefully I’ll go back next week when it’s a bit drier for a longer look. I think that is the last of Britain’s wintering or breeding ducks for me.

Black browed albatross at bempton. My first visit to what looks like an amazing site. I didn’t have the cliff top views people had earlier in the week but it going missing for a few days meant I was just happy to see it as I can’t see me having another chance to be in Yorkshire for a while...

Caspian Tern today at llanelli wwt. Terns are my favourite family so seeing the largest was pretty special. Passed it over on first scan as it was head down and larger than the surrounding gulls. Quite some bill on it. I think it just leaves me Gull Billed of Europe’s breeding species.

Hopefully Ferruginous Duck. Was apparently unringed and definitely flying around and wary. But they always are when you’re the one who sees them aren’t they. Edit. And had disappeared over night without knowingly ever taking any bread. Nice to know

Blue winged teal at man sands yesterday. Lovely sunshine and apparently a far bolder than usual duck. First lifer of the year and hopefully a portent of american ducks to come when I visit Scotland in a few months

Pectoral Sandpiper at Clifton Pits Worcestershire. Very nice scope views, quite strange to see a pair of transatlantic visitors with one constantly trying to chase and bully the other away from feeding. My fifth American wader lifer of the year, good to finally get the most common one.

The sightings list for strumble looked amazing. My last visit a few weeks ago had 4 scoter as the highlight. Think I would have had at least two lifers from your day.

Semi-palmated sandpiper. Nice scope views on my third attempt.

Wryneck at Ogmore today. Showed extremely well almost as soon as I arrived. One of my highlights of the year.

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

I’ve put it on my wp list on bubo but not my British one (largely because you can’t) so I’m stuck on 199 for the year

Either Buff breasted sandpiper or ruddy shelduck depending on where you stand on the latter. Frampton and Rutland respectively

Sabine’s gull. On a pool on the side of the Brecon Beacons. Not where you’re supposed to see them but I bet the views were better
