I haven't really been out looking much but during a holiday in North Norfolk last week I saw two Temminck's Stints at Cley Marshes, though very distant and if it hadn't been for the people with scopes who pointed them out I'd not have had a clue what they were (many of the waders just look the...

First new species I've seen for some time turned up on my local patch at the weekend and I got to see it yesterday afternoon after a lot of searching to no avail in the morning - a Glossy Ibis! Really pleased to have seen one, particularly on my home ground! If you're going to twitch then doing...

Nice pics of the Sanderlings and a lovely bird for sure, wonderful little things to watch. I only saw my first ones a year or so back and was very much taken with them too, they are so charismatic to see running along the shoreline. A good day out with two new birds for me today, a Slavonian...

Finally saw a couple of Common Sandpipers today at Manningtree in Essex - surprising really that it's taken me until now to see one as I've seen Purple Sandpipers and Curlew Sandpipers which should be rarer by all accounts. Just the way it goes sometimes I guess!

Finally got to see a Hobby this morning, and on my patch too - hurrah! B (:

Just returned from a week near Minsmere, got my first sightings of Cetti's Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Black Tern, Woodlark, Garden Warbler, Marsh Tit, Turtle Dove and, although not a wild bird, the Greater Flamingo. Also got to see Hummingbird Hawk-moth, Green Hairstreak, Slow Worm, Stoat...

Blimey, that does sound good! Last weekend I got to see a young Night Heron down on the Thames estuary, which was also my first proper experience of twitching since there was a line of birders with scopes on the sea wall watching it and people rushing over to get to see it. Was great to see the...

I've yet to see one after about three years of not entirely serious and mostly local birdwatching... and not seen Hobbies or Peregrines either! Walking around my local patch last weekend turned up four Whinchats, which was rather unexpected!

Have just returned from a week on the North Norfolk coast. Trundling around on the bus and on foot we managed to see over 80 different birds (and some cool behaviour like Swallows diving and mating and lots of Avocets courting and mating too) and also got to see six new birds. With some help I...

Saw my first pair of Goldeneye yesterday at Hanningfield Reservoir, along with a Black-necked Grebe!

Sounds like a pretty good place for them then Enji. :t: At Maldon on Wednesday saw a single Knot down near the seawall, didn't expect to see one there at all and I had to look it up in my guidebooks when I got home and post a photo on here to check the ID. Was glad I went, first time I've been...

I started writing a reply when I saw you'd posted this earlier but really didn't know how to word it without appearing to be taking the mick - which I most definitely am not! How can I say this... I'm fascinated that a ringer (by which is presumably a birder of long experience) hadn't seen a...

Two new little waders seen at Walton-on-the-Naze today - Sanderling and Purple Sandpiper! Great little birds, loved watching the Sanderlings dashing back and forth along the waterline.

Two new ones for me when walking my local patches today - added Jack Snipe to the Snipe I'd seen in the same area this winter, and also saw a pair of Red Crested Pochard on a local farm. I'd seen RCP's in captivity before, but not in the wild. Could well be escapees but I have a suspicion they...

They are lovely birds, along with the Ringed Plover they're ones I have a real soft spot for. I've not seen them much but it's always great when I do.

Nice - saw a captive female Hooded Merganser at a wildfowl collection this week... great bird although they do rather look like they've been electrocuted! :-O Up on the north Norfolk coast over the last week and doing my usual fairly casual birdwatching I saw a lot of new birds - Golden Plover...

Found my first Common Gulls at a local farm this morning. Most likely a species I've been seeing for years but it's the first time I've actually spotted and identified them.

Well after posting that I was looking out for Curlews last week I found one yesterday! Went to Southend to meet-up with a friend from flickr who said he'd show me around the birdy spots and found Curlews on the seafront near the pier, out at Leigh-on-Sea and at Two Tree Island. :t: Also got to...

Excellent. :t: I'm looking out for my first Curlew (well, I'm hoping to see one, I'm not actually doing much to increase my chances apart from keeping an eye on the river and fields)- I heard that a pair were seen flying down the river just a mile or so from my house recently so am hopeful that...

    Your Most Recent "Life" Bird

Have seen two new species within a couple of miles from my house over the last few weeks, a Red-throated Diver in the town park (!) and Stonechats along the river less than half a mile from my home. Although the Diver is rare and really interesting to find (the number of birders I've seen at...

Yesterday my brother took me to see his local Tawny Owl and a group of Little Grebes, both firsts for me. The Little Grebes are so tiny! Fantastic little things!
