What did you see in your binoculars today?

A few days ago my son and I set off in order to find (and photograph) a Great Black Woodpecker which he had heard and seen numerous times when we were playing in woods. On that day it wouldn't present itself. But we spotted a cuckoo and a few Great Spotted Woodpeckers. I used my ELs (8.5x) to...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I used my UV 7x42 in the garden this morning. Apart from a few buzzards in the sky there were some very interesting insects in my garden. I don't usually watch insects through binoculars, so it was the first time for me to think that the close focus of the UV could be a bit better. Watching...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Thank you, Thotmosis. Here are another two cropped photos and a snapshot of half of the flock. We were on a family walk and I watched them through my bins from a distance while keeping an eye on the kids. As you can see, I took a chance and skived off to snap a few photos...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I spent the last few days on an island in the North Sea, Germany. I was surprised to find a flock of greenfinches in the dunes. I didn't know dunes were their habitat. Also, I watched quite a few sanderlings (?). Binoculars used EL 8.5x42

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I used my Ultravid 10x42 to find some fallow deer. I love them! Both the stags and the binoculars.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

UV+ 10x42 (which doesn't seem to get much praise here...). An adult white-tailed eagle, a young barn swallow and a young vixen that was searching a cut meadow for mice.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Yes, it is. In Germany, they usually nest in rocks, except for a population in the North where they are ground-nesting due to a lack of rocks. They sometimes nest on high buildings, too. This photo was taken in an abandoned quarry. So was the photo of the kite. The kite is often there keeping...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I've had a great day out in the Eifel, the area where I grew up in Germany. I saw a kingfisher, two eagle owl chicks, a couple of buzzards and two red kites to name a few. Here are a couple of photos. It is such a shame that the photos cannot render the beauty seen through my UV+ 8x32s...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Three peregrine falcons. From my armchair under the roof I can see our spyre which is home to a breeding pair of peregrines. I rarely see the two of them at the same time. Today, there was even a third one circling around the spyre but he was clearly not welcome. I have my 10x42 UV mounted on a...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Yesterday there were 8 buzzards (Buteo Buteo) soaring and circling over our garden. Watched through UV 7x42 in glorious sunshine. First time I wished it had 200 at 1000m FOV...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

They are. I am in Europe, so I have never seen a Burrowing Owl. It's funny how they resemble the Little Owl. @AlphaFan Did you enhance the yellow a bit in post production? Here's a photo of a Little Owl in Germany (I posted it in another thread a couple of days ago, that's why the resemblance...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

We have just returned from North Germany. In between some family duties I found the time to enjoy two outings in a nature and bird conservation area that I know very well. So, I knew where I had to unshoulder my rucksack (which can be used as stool as well). I had sat there for a bit when two...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Guten Tag! I spend a day roaming about in a nature conservation area, mainly woodland and moorland, yesterday. I was keen to track down some fallow deer at dawn. My UV+ 10x42 did a great job. The male in the picture below was very tolerant of me. Maybe he was saving up energy for the immanent...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

My little boy and I have just returned from a wildlife trip. I took him to the abandoned quarry where I found a mother and two chicks in May. I am not sure if this is the mother or Columbo's sister. Anyway, great food for my Ultravid 7x42 and my son's Kowas (YF 6x30).

What did you see in your binoculars today?

From an observation tower in a nature reserve in North Germany I watched two White-tailed eagles, an osprey and, notably, two cuckoos tonight. My UV 8x32 gave me glorious views in the evening light. I was lucky to take a few shots of the cuckoos in the last beams of sunlight. I heard their calls...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I have spent this morning in a nature reserve in North Germany. I have been there numerous times, so I know what I am looking for and where. In summer, I happily take on the cuckoo challenge and let its call lead my way around the reserve. I spotted the first one very quickly and soon after I...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I saw two young eagle owls and their mother yesterday when the chicks were ringed. I was scanning an abandoned quarry when an owl conservationist approached me and we had a chat about the return of the eagle owl to the Eifel (Germany). He asked me if I wanted to watch him ring the two chicks...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

A couple of days ago I went for a coastal walk in Cumbria, England. We had glorious sunshine and my Leicas gave me very memorable views of the sea, the red sandstone cliffs, the blue sky and, of course, a number of seabirds which I rarely see. Among them were razorbills, guillemots, gulls...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I spent some time in an old graveyard yesterday. It's just at the bottom of the road and my go-to glassing resort when I don't have the time to leave town. There are lots of snag trees, shrubs and brambles. On Saturday I spotted a Green Woodpecker when I passed by. I didn't see him yesterday but...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

You're welcome. The buteo buteo is by far the most common buzzard in central Europe, hence its common name: common buzzard. A much rarer sight is the buteo lagopus, the rough-legged buzzard which is more common in Scandinavian countries than in central Europe. There's also the honey buzzard...
