    Merlin has been hanging around, and was perched on our property this evening. Not rare, but not too frequent either!

    Went for a hike yesterday, in pleasant wx, but with relatively few birds - 7 species total, none unusual. The day prior went out to local ag field and managed to find a Lapland Longspur in a flock of Horned Larks. The former a lifer ;-)

    It's all relative... we've been in a drought (VA/USA) and finally had some real rain yesterday. Lovely to see a downpour! Not today, but two days ago we managed to find a Western Flycatcher who is waaaaaaay out of its range here on east coast! One of the few times I've taken my 10x Noctivid...

    Loggerhead Shrike...on a VERY windy day. Test driving new 10x NV :-)

    Just stepped out for a few minutes to keep test driving new binos. Watched a pair of Red-bellied Woodpeckers getting acorns and wedging them in trees in order to crack them, a Carolina Wren foraging, a Hairy Woodpecker, a Flicker (yes we have lots of 'peckers'!), and a handful of crows...

    Well, yesterday actually, but Downy Woodpecker, Red-tailed Hawk, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Cardinals, Turkey Vultures, Titmice, Crows, and a Belted Kingfisher. All seen standing in front yard :)

    Just now watching Ruby-crowned Kinglets, an E. Phoebe, and a Brown Creeper, from our kitchen door.

    Thanks! I was abour 20yds from birds (was a flock that sometimes shows up at either our patch of Cedars or the creek behind house. Used a Sony 70-350mm lens, so approx 500mm in film equiv. And cropped a bit... <must . not . look . at . longer . lenses!>
