Yep - had fieldfare in our garden in Bedlington earlier... first time since I've lived here.

Three spoonbill and a single whooper swan with the mutes at the lake opposite the Widdrington Arms (no idea what the lake is called!). Presumably the same three spoonbills that were at Druridge pools earlier in the week. Easy to spot the spoonies as some berk in a helicopter seem to be buzzing...

Unexpected sight tonight driving home from work - 3 little egrets in the horse paddock across Horton Road from the Three Horseshoes Pub at East Hartford.

My first whooper swans of the year were something of a surprise - flying low over houses in the centre of Bedlington. Would have been a garden flyover tick if I'd been in my garden :)

I had a quick jaunt from Druridge Pools up past East Chev and round the country park and back on Sunday and it was fairly quiet. Short Eared Owl, shoveler, wigeon and teal from the budge hide along with the lapwing, curlew, coots, moorhen and mallards. Similar fare at East Chev with the addition...

Not sure about the dark eye, but I've seen a few photos of Jackdaws with fairly extreme deformity of the bill where the tips are curved like this one : http://www.pauljg.nl/home/Dyxum/Images10/100124-1-03.jpg

Common crane this evening landed on ground between Lynemouth power station and the new wind turbine. Annoyingly where it landed was behind fences and levee so no chance of getting views once on the ground but good views as it came in.

Inland would be much more likely to LRP.

Any swallows sighted yet? I arrived in North Wales for a short break this morning and had two swallows fly past South Stack RSPB reserve, as well as a raven and around a dozen chough, with more wheatears than you could shake a stick at.

Further to the puffin yesterday at Berwick, a quick stroll along 100m of Cresswell foreshore this morning presented four dead puffins. None of them oiled but they did look quite thin - wonder if the adverse weather has been affecting their ability to feed? On a more positive note I had my first...

    Northumbrian Birding

Had an interesting walk around Berwick today - his'n'hers red throated divers in breeding plumage (first I've seen south of the border in their summer outfits) off the pier as well as a solitary puffin who looked a bit dazed and confused but very much alive. Lots of buzzards in evidence all up...

A flock of circa 20 waxwings seem to be frequenting the Hazlemere estate in Bedlington at the moment. They've been present the last three mornings on Alnwick Drive around 9am.

My little girl started to take an interest in birds at around the age of four... her ability to get names to stick was limited but she still delights in seeing a Wilma hang-gliding around the cliff tops (a Fulmar to most people)

There was a single adult at Cresswell last weekend - didn't see any sign of juveniles at that time. There was also a single adult on one of the pools on the other side of the Sheepwash road to Bothal pond.

Hmm... for the second year running we appear to have linnets nesting in our front garden (in Bedlington) Not a species I associate with urban gardens but they seem to like it here. [EDIT] I say 2nd year running - this is only our 2nd year here so they may have been returning for longer that

    Northumbrian Birding

Had the day off work today and with highly unlikely timing the sun was belting down so I spent a couple of hours at East Chevington. First bird noted out of the car - female marsh harrier hunting over the reeds at the eastern end of the south pool. Down to the hide and not a lot of note except...

Osprey flew east over the A1 following the River Blyth just before 5pm this evening.

I'd echo this... please keep an eye open if you're out and about around the druridge bay area - I know his owner is beside herself worrying about him so any news at all would be a great help.

I've had red squirrel crossing the road outside Woodhorn museum and in the trees around the QEII country park. Not a bad place for them. I note spoonbill sighting further South at Seaton Common today- almost exactly a year since the group that stuck around Druridge for a few weeks last year...
