Osprey flew slowly north over Cresswell at dusk last night causing 180 degree deviation by a group of 40-50 curlew just about to drop in! Meanwhile the dunes close to the village were on fire, probably deliberate. Quite severe damage over but well contained by fire brigade.

The Northumbria Bird Atlas is as a 550 page, profusely illustrated document which gives the current status of the birds of the area. Between the rivers Tyne and Tweed there are 200 species of birds which commonly breed or spend the winter. The Atlas foreword is by Anne Cleeves, an award-winning...

Over recent days, I have tried to provide accurate and updated information onto this forum on behalf of NWT as well as ways to move forward. This appears to be making little difference and isnt exactly encouraging me to continue responding! Perhaps it was a mistake to try to engage in this...

Northumberland Wildlife Trust should consider the other meanings of the third word in that name. 'Trust' has more than one meaning and it seems to me that the local users of the reserves just don't trust the trust. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe you might be a supporter of NUFC (or is it...

Hi Richard – its Steve not Zappa – I don’t want to hide behind a screen name! I am a user of the sites and just happen to work for NWT. I am in the hides most weekends as a punter with my family. Say hi! The channel was cleared by NCC recently due to flooding of the road. That was a bonus...

Alan - thanks for the potted history to which I will add - it feels like a dissertation paper but here goes! East Chevington was originally designed to be a reedbed site with a tiny amount of open water. As I recall (although I was only a volunteer at the time), John Stephenson from British Coal...

In a previous post (8731), I took the opportunity of outlining the facts regarding management of Cresswell. The only ones to change are that Alcan have now sold the pond to NWT and the Trust is currently waiting for the transfer of the agricultural management from Crown Estates, as this was...

What a sad world where everybody who works for wildlife organisations are roundly condemned as chancers who dont care or have no knowledge or experience. I hope they carry on despite this.

I was there today and agree it is the highest I have seen following some high tides (you can see the debris brought in off the coast)and coincidental rainfall. However, as has been stated previously, the Trust can only remove the sandbar a maximum of three times a year. Heres a thought...

I noticed a sign at Chew Green suggesting there are black grouse in the area. Is that true? Is there a good place in the area to see the lek at the right time of year? Black grouse numbers on the training area have been falling for many years as with other parts of the North sadly, but reports...

Snab Point - 31st July Whilst watching from Snab Point, Cresswell on a beautiful evening we witnessed a short eared owl fly in from the horizon, trying for a couple of eiders before flyiing inland towards Lynemouth. It was really well marked and the light was great - but no camera. A colleague...
