As in someone sent a tweet direct to Birdguides for the purpose of reporting it to them? If so then fair point but I got the impression that Birdguides just happen to follow some people who tweeted about the sighting,If that's the case then I don't see why Birdguides should by obliged to report...

It seems a little unfair to criticise Birdguides for not taking it upon themselves to put out news that people haven't actually reported to them regardless of whether they may or may not have been aware of it through other sources.

It depends I think, when I was there on Saturday it was right across the far side and I only saw it because someone kindly let me look through their scope but I think it has often been seen on the sand bank in front of the hide where it would be easily viewable with bins.

I would say that there's pretty much no chance of 2 genuine Lesser Whitefronts I believe there's a presumed escape in the area so one of them could have been that one. European Whitefronts would still look small in direct to Greylags. Lesser Whitefronts tend to have less belly streaking than...

It would be very unusual to see 11 woodcock together. Snipe are actually quite normal to see on arable land, they don't really need any standing water just soft damp ground. I suppose they could have been another species of wader but between the two Snipe would certainly be a lot more likely than...

I havent been round that way myself yet so not sure about the state of places but sighting wise I've seen reports of Greenland Whitefronts at Woodhorn for a few weeks now and in the Druridge area there's been recent reports of a good selection of Grebe's,Divers and Sea Ducks.

I've no idea if its got a name but I've been passing it regular and after reading your post decided to stop and have a quick look yesterday. Present were 5 Ruff,6 Dunlin and a decent number of Teal and Snipe. Fenham-le-moor yesterday afternoon: GreenShank x1 Black tailed Godwit x3, Little...

Well they certainly arent all the same, The middle one looks like an Icterine Warbler which I'm sure is what Phil was getting at.

Blackcaps do overwinter in small numbers, I saw one in my local park on New years day. In most years the migratory ones would be arriving any time now but everything does seem a bit behind this year.

I believe it does refer to the pond you describe,That said the last time i saw Whitefronts there they were actually in the fields near the hospital so you may need to check round the whole area to find them. Cant really help with viewing places though,I've always found it a bit of a tricky place...

There's certainly no doubt that all that rain took its toll on some species, It was a very poor breeding year for Partridges.

You're sounding a bit paranoid there Alan. All Jerkin was suggesting is that the Ducks may have felt threatened by the Ravens in this particular situation and may well have good reason to fear a Raven and that would explain their behaviour. No body is suggesting that Duck populations are under...

I wonder if it could have been a Gadwall, I've always found the white chest of a drake Pintail to be one of the features that stands out the most especially from distance.

Got a text off my brother yesterday to say he thought he'd seen 2 Snow Geese with Pinkfeet in the Beal area but I thought they were likely to be the couple of Ross's Geese that often hang around that way but I notice there's a report on Birguides of Snow Goose at Beal this morning anyone got any...

Derek, I think i may have bumped into that day, I remember talking to 2 lads with Irish accents when we were stood next to the hide at East Chevington, you might remember my girlfriend complaining about the cold (as usual):-O It was certainly a canny day to be in that area with plenty of decent...
