Nikon FF (and DX) Mirrorless rumours/ announcements

What I was trying to say: even as an N1 enthusiast I couldn't say how the V4 might have looked - the V2, V3 and J5 behave so differently in terms of AF-C and AF-A. The N1 philosophy seems to have found its "dead end". The N1 stood for simplicity, yet the general trend is the opposite. Users want...

Nikon FF (and DX) Mirrorless rumours/ announcements

In 2014 a German AF comparison test had the Olympus OM-D E-M1 winning among the mirrorless cameras, but it added this remark: I shoot raptors in flight with the Nikon V2 and rarely miss. Same with doves, gulls etc. Being familiar with the V2, who needs tracking? Also, the V3 has a much worse...

While it can be an issue, shutter noise also has advantages. After two years of silence now I sometimes turn on the noise. It helps me to cure my mistake to press the shutter too early in a BIF situation, to be aware of buffer limitations and shoot more "consciously", care more about framing...

Nikon FF (and DX) Mirrorless rumours/ announcements

So which of the two mirrorless systems, N1 or Z, is worse at tracking? Pressing OK on my V2 to start or stop tracking has rarely worked with small birds. After this harsh review, and marcsantacurz' report in the other thread I'll rather get another V2 body. Mirrorless birding at its best, and...

Nikon FF (and DX) Mirrorless rumours/ announcements

From a Nikon company that gave us a long list of F lenses incompatible with the FT1 on the Nikon J5? Let's hope it has learned a lesson.

More sophisticated than the FT1 for the Nikon1? Probably means it offers AF-C from the start.

"The [global shutter] removes the 'rolling shutter' effect". I've never met the rolling shutter effect with N1 cameras, but 63 MP resolution and 8k sounds great. I'd happily pay Euro 100 more for a switch converting the cam into a bat detector. ;)

We might have to wait until 26-28 September 2018, the next Photokina mass.

Nikon FF (and DX) Mirrorless rumours/ announcements

Whatever it is, it will have a smaller crop factor than the 2.7 of the N1 series. I might still like the next reincarnation, no high expectations though. If the new kit lens is a Nikkor 600 PF ...

These factories were probably unable to produce the new curved sensors for the improved Nikon 1+ series. ;)

Maybe software engineers can tame the G9's wobbling/fluttering AF so that it behaves less unruly. Still, after reading that review I've lost my interest in the camera. For people with a priority for "birds in flight" the Nikon D500 remains the gold standard. Edit: Not to forget the Canon 7D...

Nikon FF (and DX) Mirrorless rumours/ announcements

The Nikon 1 had the potential to be a "serious" mirrorless camera. If we forget the awful marketing and the high prices, it was a superb system. Maybe not for the general photographer, but definitely for birders. If any evidence were needed, Stirr's blog provides many fine examples of birds in...
