So I got an example of what I'm referring to this morning with helping a friend buy some binoculars. To quote from another thread

That's to be expected but for me it's not just a view. It's hard experience.

Could be true but IMO the majority are not from my 65 years of experience in buying and being in sales the last 19 years of my career. For most it's just a job and they would rather be doing something else. And I can't blame them for that. Very few of us get to pick our jobs.

Not likely. They'd get hate mail and a lot of general dressing down. lol My guess is that a company that would close up shop in that fashion has not thought of ever venturing into the binocular business again under the Zen Ray logo. There's just too many other binoculars out there that have...

I never thought about that part. It's a drag for sure that some people seem to have lost their Zens when sent for repair. I'd be quite angry and disappointed at that.

I think we are talking about different things. I was saying I didn't see anyone here on this forum wanting a pound of flesh or wishing ZR ill. I don't think it would have cost him or been a legal problem to take phone calls from customers with warranty issues but maybe that's not true. I do...

They were my first mid level binocular also and I still have them while a dozen or more other brands have gone bye bye. Even all my Vortex. I loved those first days at Birdforum. I couldn't get enough of all the amazing optical possibilities. I even went bird watching lol.

I must have missed the animosity towards Zen Ray. I thought almost everyone was rooting for them. Seems strange to me that anyone would care where they were made as long as they were good. It's certainly not like they were the only ones using chinese labor. This gets weirder more I hear about...

From what I can tell everything is speculation because the principal player is incommunicado.

So do I, I usually hate apologies that are not tied to action also. I'm not in my most forgiving mood at the moment because I've just been through another seller situation where I got neglect and broken promises from a binocular seller and then got the same thing in regards to a promised...

Perterra. Really? I've been on this forum off and on for a bit and I haven't seen many if any examples of what you are talking about. Let's remember that this company would not answer the phone to respond to customers that they had made promises to. Are they supposed to be happy with that? In...

Yeah that all went through my mind also. I think he could have been embarrassed/ashamed or something but I think his lack of trust in his customers understanding, were he to have come clean, might also have been because he never really was that decent of a guy in relation to his communicating...

I would think we will make room for another brand if someone ever notices lol. I expect this subforum to go anytime actually. So before it does I want to say that my Zen Ray 7x36 has one of the most beautiful views of any pair of binoculars I own. I had them out today and was looking at the...

That's a pretty cool idea. I can research that myself. I'll find a home for them where they can live on. Thanks for a great suggestion.

Name one of my pair of binoculars. Send me your address and I'll have it shipped to you after I die to soften the blow you tender hearted softy. I'm actually sicker than I want to be and I didn't actually think I'd be here this long after my diagnosis several years ago. I could be gone sooner or...

I hadn't heard that had so many return and repair issues. Dang I hope mine last. I really love them and have an emotional attachment to them. They were my first semi expensive binocular as I caught the optics bug. I seem to have it worse this time around but I think from now on I'll stick to...

I had out my 7x36 today on a long hike. These are very good optics imo. I think the price I paid was a great value. Why did things so south when they had a good product? That's what I'd like to know.

Ah what a shame. I still have one of the first 7x36s. If something goes bad I'll do a Jimi Hendrix on them.
