    Goa Winter 2017 - 2018

There are many options for hotels and price ranges, depends on how much you're willing to pay. It's maybe better to think of areas which would be suitable, and then check the hotel options available. North of Arpora - hotels like Marinha Dourada, Sun Village, Maizons, Lazy Lagoon all decent...

    Goa Winter 2017 - 2018

That is real shame. It used to be such a hugely productive unpopulated area where you could just wander around for hours undisturbed. Full of birds. I remember on my first one or two trips, I saw Jungle Cat, Golden Jackal and Indian Grey Mongoose as well as the birds. Leopards were reported on...

Oriental Scops? You mean Indian Scops Owl (Otus bakkamoena)? An adult type Eastern Imperial Eagle was photo'd at Socorro Plateau yesterday; very few sightings in Goa. Also recently, Avocet and Streaked Weavers at Carambolim. Mark

    Goa Winter 2017 - 2018

An adult Black-legged Kittiwake has been seen and photographed at Morjim a few days ago (not sure whether still there). 13 years (almost to do the day) since the first in Goa, also at Morjim. At least a couple of other records in Goa in the last few years, quite remarkable for such a rare bird...

A full review of the birds of Goa has been undertaken by Pronoy Baidya & Mandar Bhagat, and the paper/checklist has just been published in Indian Birds. A great read and fantastic background work by the authors. Available here: http://www.indianbirds.in/ This issue also has a feature on the...

Definitely seems to be the case Gordon, certainly in northern Goa. Baga is a different world to what it used to be, for both tourism and birding. I'm seriously considering southern Goa for my next visit, within striking distance of Verna/Ambulor lake and Cotigao further south. I've seen past...

    Goa Winter 2017 - 2018

The Asian Dowitcher has remained at Carambolim Lake and has showed well for visiting birders. A Long-billed Pipit was photographed at Sucurro plateau on 26 Nov; although there are one or two historic reports, this would be the first documented record for Goa. Mark

A pelagic at the weekend turned up Red-billed Tropicbird - a rare bird offshore and very occasionally storm driven at the coast. Great Hornbills have been seen at Socorro Plateau and Tamdi Surla in the last week, along with Grey-necked Bunting at Verna. The best recent sighting is of 6 Greylag...

    Goa Winter 2017 - 2018

Hi Gordon. Had me doubting myself as I couldn't find the pelagic details on these Facebook pages either! However, did track it down on FB pages of a couple of Goa friends (details attached). Not heard results yet but will post once I do. Edit- both trips were cancelled due to bad weather...

The pelagics are organised by some of the locals with the necessary boat connections, and are advertised on the Facebook pages for Goa Bird Conservation Network and Birds of Goa. Both groups are well supported and have a wealth of excellent photos. Not heard any results of the weekends pelagics...

    Goa Winter 2017 - 2018

Although not quite into tourist season, it'll be good to get a new thread underway as a resource for people to share their sightings. One good bird present in recent days is an immature Indian Skimmer at Agassim (on the Zuari river). This will prove rather popular if it stays for the winter...
