Bridge cameras,whichever one it is are always a compromise and will never mstch a good dslr and lens set up.A camera like the rx10 is great if you want a very capable camera that is easy yo carry but you will not get the same iq as you will from a good slr. If portability over ultimate image... -

Hit the nail on the head.......light and distance.It is so easy to fall into the trap of trying to take photos of small subjects (as in your image) at silly distances with bridge cameras such as the sony......it just doesn't work.Also,good light is so important to help you get that great shot... -

You are right Den,being prepared is half the battle.Practice is also important.....the more you use a camera the better you will get with it......you can get great bif shots with an old manual film camera if you know what you're doing.Cameras such as the p900 or many other good bridge cameras... -

Some lovely images there.The p900 is easily capable of capturing gulls and similar in flight....like you say not the most challenging of conditions. -

Some lovely images there.I was tempted by this camera for a while but the price is a bit daft for a bridge camera.I ended up with a p900 and it is capable of some great images....equal to those of the sony in my humble opinion. -

500mm F5.6 Iso 640. 1/250 sec I was a bit further away than 12ft.......that is why the picture has been heavily cropped down to 4.4mp. I'm certainly more impressed with the sony though now ive seen the full size photo........these type cameras are definately going to be the future i... -

Why spend all that money on a camera that you only need for "record" shots......just curious.My panasonic fz200 was great for a bridge camera with a constant f2.8 aperture throughout its entire zoom range,fast af good enough for birds in flight and more than good enough for "record " shots.Just... -

Hi Steve, The higher end bridge cameras are certainly quicker and they do give great results in the right conditions,so if you dont need the better quality that a good slr gives,the sony is a great proposition. The other thing with this model is i believe you cant crop photos in the camera.This... -
