Sony RX10 1V the new boy.

This is a good point, Steve. If you're a serious photographer then a DSLR is always going to be your route. However, if like me you're a birder who wants to get some half decent shots then the Sony wins all day long. Andy

This is the kind of result you can expect with decent light.

I made a point of exploring this today. Once the focus has been acquired on the subject, you can zoom in and it will either remain in focus or automatically re-focus without depressing the shutter button half way. This doesn't work so well if the subject is very distant, but for most situations...

Yes, for sure you can't zoom with the shutter button depressed but isn't that a different point? The original question was can you remain in continuous focus tracking while you zoom? You can lock on the subject and zoom without the shutter button depressed.

I have the Mkiv and I would have said you can do this. However I'm not a photographer, so someone more techy than me might be able to confirm. I have had this camera for two years now and have never regretted the day I bought it. Yes, it's expensive and unless you demand top end DSLR results...

Sony RX10 1V the new boy.

The menu settings aren't confusing or cumbersome, but it will take a while to get used to everything. Simply using the camera will help. I tend to use aperture priority with the focus on C (continuous autofocus) and medium or fast burst, depending on the subject/conditions. The 4k video function...

Nice set. What settings/focus mode do you use? Andy

After a tweaking the settings, my first real attempt at the 4K video function on this camera. I have to say, this looks pretty darn good on a 4K screen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gjAGq4fhR0U&feature=youtu.be

Nice shots. In terms of readiness, this was first bird of the day, last Sunday within 5 seconds of turning the camera on! https://www.flickr.com/photos/142541660@N08/44124354350/in/album-72157673643823437/

Yes, it was a bit pricey, but I had a bit of a windfall, and thought I'd splash out. I previously had the Panasonic FZ1000. The Sony is definitely better. I have heard good things about the P900.

Personally, I find it slightly less capable at birds in flight compared to the Panasonic FZ1000, but in the SCN Sports mode it is still okay. In every other aspect it is superior.

Really enjoying my RX10 Mkiv and getting good results. One thing I can't sort out, is how to turn off the LCD. I've put a little bit of blue-tak over the eye sensor, but is there an official way?

I don't even understand most of the technical jargon you guys are using. Anyway, here's my take on the Sony RX10 Mkiv http://birdsandfood.blogspot.co.uk/2018/05/nice-weather-and-new-camera.html
