John, Well this is an opinion worth discussion :t: I have no issue with the fact people prefer different focus arrangements, or that they prefer different fov parameters either. It is neither good nor bad, it is just the way things are ;). I agree with your eye relief comments. One of my...

Alex Looks like Steve hasn't been around for a few days so I will just remark here that it was yourself who introduced the question of whether Steve had experience of EL SV or SF (see above), so it was a bit unfair to bat away his reply to this by saying it was irrelevant. Lee Yes, I've been...

Thanks Kimmo. I do set up binoculars side by side on a tripod and use one eye then the other on a back and forth. However the sky with its no need to have them perfectly aligned is a good idea for fov. I'm usually trying to decide about sharpness etc.

You come across like you are handing down a regal proclamation engraved on a stone tablet with your focus direction rant. Not to be rude, but you seemed rude in the way you went after the point. To repeat, because you feel that is natural, there are other who don't. Pretty simple. Me thinks...

OK, am I losing it or what? I would have sworn I saw a comment from Dennis about Tract. I went to respond to him and poof! Tract, hopefully, should be in the mix. The contact I need to talk to won't be back for a week.

Henry, To me the fov looks wider than it is when just looking through it. In side by side comparisons with wider fov,s it seems like what it is. I had no intention of stating a new optical concept. What that was is a description of my impression of the fov. That impression is just that it...

I have zero empathy for your focus direction phobia. It seems to me I said that focus direction was a no win thing, you proved the point. I have binoculars that focus both directions. Either way seems natural enough. I really prefer a right finger pull to bring the object closer. I have no...

The sweet spot is pretty wide. But as to perceived fov, I am not sure that since it lilely includes individual perceptual differences it could be defined. Seems like Looksharp posted some on this a while back.

    Review: GPO Passion HD 8x42

With regard to the fov. Yes at first look the GPO looks wider than it measures. However, in spite of the first impression it seemed wider than the Promaster, that impression is observably false when I get the GPO and several other 8x42, all of which are wider than it is, actually doing...

    Review: GPO Passion HD 8x42

As an edit to my alpha killer post above. I should add that there are people who do prefer the alpha class glass and can evaluate theses GPO types with an objective eye. I did not mean to say that if you are an alpha owner that you are automatically blind to attributes of less expensive glass...

David, One of the things I look at is the top board of the corral fence which is just 100 yards from the back porch. I take the top board and put it at the very top of the field and move it downwards through the bottom, then back again, maybe several times. Lets me do a quick collimation test...

As I see it it adds choice. Choice is never a bad thing. I think what we will see is more of the Vortex type business model. Ten years ago they were pretty much nothing, now they are getting into making their own. Personally this glass lands at the upper level of the new $1,000 class.

    Review: GPO Passion HD 8x42

As to my comment that I don't think it is an alpha killer. Alpha is as much a concept or maybe a state of mind as it is of having an expensive binocular. I have said before regarding perceptions that it is not so much the binocular in front of your eyes as the perceptions between your ears...

This will be an interesting comparison, which I will get into further later. I can't cram too much stuff together. So one review at a time, then comparisons. As a result largely of the more reflective AK prism system and a slightly higher light transmission the B2 sits a slight cut above...

Dead even. They have different ergonomics. However it is an apples to oranges as my B1 is a 10x42. I promise to expand on that comparison later as the B1 will have its review, and there will be a closing comparison.

Ted, Glad you liked the review. I have really had mostly poor, dark, and dreary conditions. These work real well in the gloom. Last night the gloom went away, looks like only for today. But this morning looking over the cattle on a frosty field silhouetted against the Stukel Mountain and a...

Peter, Thanks ;). I am aware they are supposed to be screw off, and in a CW direction. However as I said I have applied all the force I am willing to apply to a binocular I do not own. If I force it any further, something's probably going to break. :eek!:
