    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I tend to carry the lens fully zoomed (or at least to 370 mm) when walking around. That minimizes the problem of sucking in dust - which would be bigger with the 100-300 anyway. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Another difference. So far I have carried it over the shoulder every time I have used it (not that many hours). One option would be the Black Rapid Strap, which I do not have, but what I have read indicates that it attaches to the tripod attachment. That means that the camera is available and...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I do not feel that turning the zoom with one hand and holding the camera with the other is any problem what so ever. Zoom ring is not loose, but it is not overly tight either. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I think the ground-breaking thing is the option of taking 8 images and stitch them together into an 80 MP image. Not the thing that would move me. I am not sure how big the difference is in AF of G85 and GH5. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Agree, but as owner of a near new G85 I am not sure I can make a case for changing this soon ;) The specs as released to the rumor site talks about a seriously big buffer -- and the buffer on the G85 is big enough that I believe I only have filled it up once during normal shooting (Brown Booby...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

His mention of the expected capabilities of the GH5 makes me really curious. It sounds strange (but I believe him) with the back/front focus of the Oly. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Thanks for sharing. They mention testing the lens with the em1-ii -- do you know if this has happened? Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I am very much in line with you there. I am also in doubt as to which camera to pair it with. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Re the GH5, I think they have to have some AF improvement, but they may not be completely sure how far they can get. Re price: I think that once early adopters have bought theirs, you can get a cheaper one, possibly price reduction or possibly secondhand or refurb. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

The focusing system has developed recently on both brands. Panasonic has come out with the DFD which does not function with the 100-300 but does function with the 100-400, and appeared first on something like the G7 I believe and was added by update to the GH4. Olympus has added on-chip PDAF...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Thanks Hermann, I had not seen this. One thing to remember is that looking at his statements today, it is worth remembering that his m4/3 cameras are at least 1 generation back from those we have otherwise discussed. The second thing I believe is that the pana 100-300 suffer from quality...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I have shot at least 600 photos in one day. Usually my Pana GH2 runs up to one day on a battery, sometimes I have to change towards the end of the day. But, yes, not if I do not turn off. I cannot imagine that being a problem, my thumb turns on the camera as I start raising it, by the time it...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

What is the time from turning on to getting a shot on a mid level dSLR such as nikon 7200? Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I think the difference between primary and assist focus points only exists with phase detection AF so most m4/3 this is not relevant. I doubt there is much change to what we said above even regarding to use the smallest focusing point. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

For the AF part, yes using the smallest possible focusing area is what I do as well. Regarding switching to MF after having used AF, I think the ease of doing that might be a little different in different systems and also depend on how you have customized your camera settings. It is very easy on...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

A couple of numbers: The review of G85 that I am reading right now says that AF works down to -4eV, while the Nikon 7100 worked to -2eV and the 7200 to -3ev. Quote from the review I am wondering if the use described by Herman, if the C-AF really is the most important or if fast S-AF really...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I think it was the recent DPreview of G85 that mentioned a 1.2 second total time from flipping on the camera to the image was written to the memory card so including start up and AF times. In the Adds for the new Oly, they claim it is the worlds fastest camera so they must be doing even better...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I live on a humid tropical island and have used a non-weather sealed system for years. I have additionally visited places like Costa Rica and Ecuador. Either do not go out in the worst downpours or make sure to bring a good quality bag that can keep it dry. Having said that, the new G85/81/...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

Dalat, the sensor is a little larger on an APC sensor, and with the most commonly used pixel numbers, the individual pixel units on the sensor is a little larger as well. That gives a slightly better signal to noice ratio which results in being able to functionally use a little higher iso for...

Mike, I think this is a very fair comparison. Given that you have used both you should know ;) but it also fit with my impression from other sources. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

I think you are wrong on what the reason is. Most birders do not carry a d500 or a 7dii and your statements only really carry for those. I personally think that once you are invested in a system with lenses, it is difficult and expensive to change and that is the biggest reason that more people...

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

This is a case where I might remember the numbers ("around 1/100") from Pana better because I have one. The redesign of the shutter in G80 is one of the reasons that would be my preferred camera among the Panas currently available. Niels

    Advice on best camera/lens combo

There has been a period where the movement of the shutter when it opened could induce shaking of the camera/lens in a way that could negatively affect the result. This is most pronounced around 1/100 s shutter time and is gone when the shutter is faster than 1/200 s. There are some combinations...
